So do you guys think 450ft lbs is doable at 2500 rpm with a 5.3 based 383ci?
#reason I asked I just seen a old traditional small block 383 do just that!!

Here is a 3.0 making 500ft*lbs at 3200rpm:

So questions like, "can I make 450 ft*lbs with my 5.3L engine" are depressing

Oh yeah I forgot half of this forum doesn't want a fast vehicle they just want to tow stuff.
Please be aware- Just because an engine makes a gob of torque doesn't make that torque useful for towing. The techWS6store guy is correct- towing isn't about torque as much as it is about achieving a steady state that is safe in the combustion chamber given the load (mass times gravity function with friction) with enough joules/second (watts) of output to actually be useful (which is given by displacement when there is no forced induction). Meow!

You can easily DOUBLE the fuel mileage of any gasoline powered vehicle BUT you can't buy the parts to do it you must engineer everything yourself. Its called hot vapor cycle and it burns every drop of fuel you put into the engine completely.
While we are talking energy there is tech out there that could provide FREE electricity for ALL on the planet BUT you will never seen it. I have seen it and worked on it myself.
We all live in a buffet of bull pucky.

I think Smokey Yunick was working on that about 40 years ago.

Here is a Workhorse document detailing the power curves of a 6.0 (LQ4) and 8.1, pages 40 and 41.

From oldws6 post he gets 12 mpg minimum pulling his 22ft camper vs your boat behind your truck struggling to get 8 mpg. Im guessing the elevation makes the difference along with the 5 speed manual vs the 4L80...
