Default 6.0 Sleeving

Is anyone out there sleeving iron 6.0 blocks. I live in an area where I don't trust the local machine shops. They don't do or haven't done yet LS stuff. I called Texas Speed and they said they only sleeve Aluminum blocks. I wan't to go to a 4.100 bore and most of what I have read said that the factory block can't go that far. I talked to a local machine shop and they said the could sonic check the block to see if my core could go out that far, but then he said that it may ruin my block and I would have to find another one. With the scarcity of good LQ4 blocks around, I don't want to take the chance of ruining my block. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

It's cost prohibitive to sleeve an iron block for that purpose. A repair for 1 or 2 cylinders maybe.

On an Aluminum block they can weld the block to add stiffeners and do other modifications that can not be done on cast iron.

So the only way to achieve my desired bore of 4.100 is to have an aluminum block sleeved or of coarse a LSX block?

A replacement stock style sleeve usually runs about $100 a hole. Then you need to deck the block to get an even finish with the sleeves and the deck.

I am not sure if they even have a stock replacement sleeve that is thick enough to bore that much and retain it's integrity. But it's not too much more expensive to have some made. Iron takes longer to machine than aluminum too...

Steve at R.E.D. could better answer it for you. He does alot of the aluminum blocks and even developed some of the aftermarket sleeve technology currently used for the LS Engines.

I believe that most LQ4 blocks will go 4.090 and 1 out 5 may go more . But it probably is going to leave one side a bit. thin. If you have a number of blocks that can be Sonic checked and you do atleast a partial fill. You may be able to reach the numbers you seek. Just curious what pistons you are planning on using because 4.100 is an odd size ?

You could also do a LSNext block in iron. It’s sleeved and can go to 4.2 boar. But I think we’re going UP the price ladder not down.
