Default Loudmouth 1 w/ LT Headers

Good afternoon! Currently working on a minor project with my 2000 trans am. Waiting on set of 799 heads and installing the LS6 intake. I want to install LT headers but I already have a SLP Loudmouth 1.. Will there be a difference if I just run the catted Y pipe OR if i run a ORY pipe and install a muffler where the resonator currently is? Anybody else have this setup?

I run long tubes with a ORY and a Magnaflow 14419 bullet muffler in place of the old LM1 resonator I had. It sounds much much better. Still loud but much deeper sounding and very little rasp. The 14419 muffler was a direct replacement for the LM1

Just swap out the resonator for a muffler.

I may just try that muffler you mentioned. The only thing I'm questioning now is the difference between Speed headers vs TSP headers... I have a Summit Racing up here but I've heard bad reviews about pacesetter being bad for fitment and I haven't heard much about BBK to know if there is much performance gains compared to the first 2...

I have Pacesetter long tubes and have no complaints, but both TSP and Speed Engineering are really nice for the price as well. Whichever way you go I'd go with 1 7/8" though

Im on summits website... they only have the 1 3/4, I've read that with the stock Ls1 its recommended, even with a mild cam. I might just go with that since its easier for me to just go pick it up instead of waiting to be shipped. Anybody know if tunebyfrost is still in business? I just need the EGR and rear 02s tuned out. Waiting on my 799 heads from 93BlackTa (real great to work with).

1 3/4" will be just fine but even in your application the 1 7/8" will be worth another 5-10 hp, and will be much better suited for potential future growth. Just something to know...

knowledge=power!! I appreciate the information, always open to ideas.. I think the next step after this would be work on the transmission and the 10bolt rear. already had the carrier replaced in it, not sure how much time is left on it lol. Just looking for a DD that I can swap the rear tires out at the track and get into the mid 13s hopefully. This is kind of new to me, never worked this far on a car before. youtube and Ls1howto help alot haha

Sounds like your on the right track. You will learn/ hear a lot of great info/advice on this sight as I did and still am! If your auto I can tell you a good quality converter is the best bang for the buck! Night and day difference. I went from 12.9 to 12.1 with my yank 3600ss and a set of dr's!

Yes! I've heard that a good converter is typically a good upgrade... How does it do with daily driving? I typically drive city 60% of the time, either to work or DD. I also heard that with it, its recommended a trans cooler to be installed. I was thinking about going with getting a trans go shift kit HD2 to help with shifting but a trans cooler I don't know much about...

Stop and go you will loose a little mpg and heat up a little more. Highway speeds it acts just like the oem stall except when you floor it In my opinion it's great for daily driving. Your car will have a different feel but you will get used to it fast. Wish I would've went 4000 lol. Yes you will want a trans cooler. I'm running the b&m 70264 with no problems with trans temps. Think I paid around $90? I bypassed the oem trans cooler after doing a bunch of research. Really simple hookup.

You're running the 14419 muffler into a full catback as well?

That's cool. Not to often do you find someone with your same exact setup lol. How do you like it overall? Did you have a different setup prior to this?

True lol. Originally I had a magnaflow catback (to quiet) with a t.s. Catted y (old version merge) Picked up the lm2 then awhile later the new version t.s. Ory. I noticed the lm2 bullet muffler wasn't 3" all the way through ( core dropped down to 2.5) so I went with the magnaflow which is true 3". From what I've read the slp lm1,lm2 are top in best flowing catbacks. I'm really happy with the sound and performance. I always think about doing the flowmaster merge or just welding on a 3" outlet in place of the 2.75.

Yes, he is. 804-226-1617.

He is doing my 4L80 swap as soon as the trans guy is done rebuilding it.

I was thinking about doing the same O2/EGR delete as well. He has to tune it for the 4L80, so he might as well delete a few things while he's in there.

Yeah I added a FM merge since my Pacesetter ORY merge was horrible lol. Believe it or not I actually picked up noticeable power from it. It's amazing what a really good merge will do on these cars over a really bad one

Ya I thought you had the fm merge. Your merge was crap compared to the new version. Not really sure if my merge would benefit from it ? It would be really easy to cut off the 2.75 and weld on a 3" outlet. Gonna half to think about it and I've thought about this more then once lol

In my honest opinion I really don't think it would be worth it in your particular case. For me I went from basically no merge to speak of to a really really good one lol. I think your gains would be extremely minimal.
