Alternator questions
Ok I need a new alternator. The car is a 99 camaro ss. I am looking and it keeps showing me cs144 vs cs130 what's the difference? Is getting one with higher Amos better?
Thank you

For less fuss, I'd remove your present bad alternator and take it to the auto parts store. Get it tested there to be sure it is bad. Then buy the exact same style and part number that you currently have. Do you need more amps? If not, buy the same part number.

Well I actually had to pull the alternator out of my camaro to put in my wife's firebird lol. But what I am wondering is putting a higher amp alternator in the car a bad idea? Basically is there an upgrade I should do do now? I am putting the new alternator in my camaro.

CS144 is physically larger but will usually bolt in place of the CS130. CS144 does put out more amps.
145 vs 105 for the CS130 but I'm not 100% certain on that.

Use a truck alternator. It is 145 amp and gives much more stable volts. From 99-04 trucks at a junk yard for $75 and will be identified as KG3 truck alternator

Refer to my alternator thread, if you buy a replacement alternator you'll regret it.
Use a truck alternator like mentioned above, the 145 amp. Hell the 105 probably be fine but why not go 145. You'll be happy if you do. There's a reason this thread is 50 pages long, it's all positive feedback after people do it.

An alternator is something where too much is OK, but not enough will NEVER do. So go for the big one. No downside to it.

Very true. And also look at it this way, with a high amp alternator you're taxing it less for a given amperage. For example the stock alternator runs around 50-80% of it's max capability at all times with all stock electrical (depending on how much you have turned on and if the fans are running), the 145 amp truck alternator will run about 30-50% of it's max with stock electrical so it's way happier.

The later trucks and the 160amp version may have a different plug on the alternator, but you can just swap over the regulator and it will bolt right up and be plug and play.
