Disappointing results with ram air

Default Disappointing results with ram air

Made it to the track and did some back to back testing with the street trim and race trim of my ram air set up. Made 3 runs of each. 1 run was scratched from traction but the average difference between the 2 was .03 and less than 1/2 mph .
as far as compared to the FRA mod I had before neither trim bettered that best run but the weather was not near as good
FRA best was 7.14 in the 1/8 but in 250 DA low humidity
Race trim ram air 7.21 in 2300 DA 100% humidity
So whatever that's worth

That's a big difference in da and I bet a quarter mile where your speeds are higher would be a better comparison

The sealed ram air setup was showing higher MAF numbers in Hz and in/min but didn't really show up in et

Ram Air is a gimmick.
Its a lid from the factory, more or less.

If I bought a regular LS1 Bird and it had no Ram Air, I would just get the SLP Lid.
If you have a Ram Air box, just get a K&N filter for it.

I thought LS1tech had an article where they took a Ram Air car and pushed it to crazy speeds and at like...150MPH or higher is only where it made a difference... helped like .05%.... anyone remember that?

The op's setup is a real ram air. The slp ram air is crap.

did you log the difference in the map? That kind humidity is a killer. Be worth 2-3 tenths in the 1/4. Also the ram air is going to help more in the 1/4 mile than the 1/8

Did log map on all the runs. On the back to back night the street trim with lid Read slightly higher up to 96.x on map while the race trim was 95.x-96. But again neither beat the earlier runs this year in less da and humidity where it peaked at 97

He's right. It's been a marketing tool for GM and other since the late 60's, early 70's. I remember the article you are talking about. You would need to shove a tremendous amount of air into the CAI to increase the pressure or Ram the air into the engine.
