Default Long Tube and Y Pipe Recommendations

Greetings All -

2001 T/A
5.7 LS1

Would like to start upgrading factory exhaust from manifolds on back. See a lot of options out there as far as long tubes, y-pipes, catbacks etc (car will not be driven more than 5k a year so no longer concerned with anything emissions related)

Thoughts on what is the best from a quality/performance standpoint?

Is the GMMG over-axle true dual worthwhile?

Appreciate any insights. Thank you!

Tsp 1-7/8 with their catback or true duals.

TSP probably has the cheapest complete exhaust systems. They are made from stainless steel, so the quality shouldn't be an issue. I only have the TSP cat-back, but I wanted the headers and Y-pipe. They were out of catted Y-pipes, so I went with the Kooks headers and catted Y-pipe. Kooks cost about double what the TSP system would have been. The TSP kit is a really good value.

For best performance, the true dual kits are better. I need to pass state inspections, so I went with the catted Y-pipe.

I'm not sure about the version. I got it in Feb. 2018. It fits quite well. It clears most speed bumps, but I'm also at factory ride height.

I have read that the TSP and Speed engineering are very comparable. I think speed engineering is a hair cheaper.

I've had the TSP's on my car for 3 years now. I think they are pretty good quality. If I could do it again i'd start with with LT's and ORY and add a cutout to the factory exhaust which mine is long gone.

I installed Speed engineering headers and y pipe to my factory exhaust, in the driveway. It was an easy install and it sounded great. A year after I bought their true dual setup. It went on easy as well and sounds even better. You can sort through my posts for info on them or find the YouTube link.

Everyone posted great ideas , but what type sound do you want and volume you be comfortable with?

Emissions don’t seem to be an issue for you, any HOA concerns? Will you be lowering the car?
