Default Dorman LS2 intake 6L

Speed Secrets did a 706 vs 799 head shootout using a 6.0L with a DLS2 intake. On a 6L the 799 heads produced 9 hp more at peak but in the midrange the 706 heads produced 12 ft pd torque more. The surprise, the DLS2 intake was capable of producing over 500 hp. IIRC 522 was peak.

That would make the 706 my choice...

I would like to see a set of 706 heads that have been touched up some by hand.

Yes sir!!! What valve angles are the best? I want to get an L33, use 862/706 with some hand portings, and ls2 intake

I'm no expert, but I've read/heard that the valve seats are usually 30/45/60 degrees with the 45 being the contact area, and the valve is 45 with a back cut to improve flow. I have forgotten the back cut angle. Some shops may use different angles, but the above is common.

Might have to look into buying some valve seat tooling.

How much hp difference is there for the LS2, LS1 vs the ones you listed on a 5.3? I can find the ls1/2 for a decent price compared to the dls2, (which I do have one), or even the ls6.

Neither the LS1or LS2 are great manifolds. The LS2 is a little better than the LS1.

My local junkyard has plenty of GM LS vehicles with 862/706 heads. I got myself a pair of 862 heads to practice my porting on along with the 241 heads off my Camaro. If you have spare cash/funds get a set of ls heads to mess with.

i think a 30 deg back cut is common.

if you've ever looked closely, i've seen that LS intake valves seem like they already have a sort of cast-in back cut already, so i'm not sure how much it would help.

ive been taught, and read enough, that 30* is usually the go-to for improving flow in the lower lift range. But that was always on sbc/bbc with the 23-26* valve angles. Getting more and more interested in the ls platform........I'd be curious to know how/if the more shallow valve angles would require something close to 30*, or wildly different.
