Default 706 heads on LS1

Hi I was wondering if a stock 706 head has any advantages over a stock LS1 head?
I have a fully ported .20 milled set of 706s with upgraded springs.(built for a lq4 project)
or should I rather go 243/799 for a LS1?

Again motor is a 5.7 LS1

Main advantage is compression

Will a milled .20 706 head interfear with the Piston stroke of a stock 5.7 LS1?

PS : my heads are fully ported by Lloyd elliot incl. bigger 2.00 valves
So i assume i could expect some extra power over the stockers

No interference at all. Measure how far out the hole your pistons come out at tdc, add .036, order the closest head gasket you can to that without going under.

I dont see any LS1 folks putting 706s on so is there a setback? Even if the heads are worked?

It is more common to put milled 243 because they flow a bit better and have bigger valves

The tsp 2.5 5.3 head upgrade is quite literally one of the biggest and most used budget upgrades for ls1 cars. Maybe because they dont always specifically say 706 that search isnt coming back, but they are used a ton.

706/862 have been a budget upgrade for years. They work well especially well when they are worked over.

Just as an example here is an old post showing them being used.

The ported 706's were very popular when 243 castings weren't available or cost $1,000 +

They became less popular as 243 became affordable and some castech 706s developed cracking issues.

Ran a set TEA Stage 2 706's for 15 years on my 99 TA and no had issues with them.

Many excellent 706 5.3 set ups were common back in the day...TSP still offers them I think

TSP has a very reasonably priced CNC porting service for cathedral heads. The 5.3 head program flows very close to the ported 243/799 heads.

You should be good with fully ported 706 heads on your LS1. Ported your heads will flow better and you will have more compression, so you should get a nice bump in power. Run the heads and report back.
