Default Truck Intake

Thinking about going with injection on my street and strip project and since it's a budget build I was going with either a truck intake. They are pretty much ugly and I see where people are shaving them and using epoxy or resin sanded and painted to make them look a lot better but I'm curious to how they'd hold up to boost? I guess it would have to do with how good your plastic welding job was and if I done it, I'd use the fiberglass strand type filler. Just curious if anyone has tried this, I figure my intake choice would be between the truck or the SS blazer, I think that's right, since they seem to perform well. Does anyone know if the truck will accept a 92 mm TB?

If you were just using fiberglass to smooth it out and make it look nicer, how would boost have anything to do with it? The composite intakes are fine for boost within normal levels for these engines.

What vehicle is this going on, and what are your power numbers? The TBSS intake is generally seen as better over the truck intake, but it is a little more expensive to buy. You can get truck intakes all day long used, whereas you would have to buy the TBSS intake new, strangely, amazon sells them.

There is a reproduction Trailblazer SS intake that you can get from AC Delco, less than $140.

From what I've seen on U tube when you cut the pieces off, you have holes, you use the plastic pieces you cut off to patch the holes by using a soldering iron to plastic weld them. That to me makes a weak point so just wondering if you threw 20 psi to these 'patches', would they hold up? I've priced the intakes, I know I could come up with a used truck one but just wondering if it would accept the bigger TB. I've been told the SS one will. As far as going over it with filler, I figured using the fine strand, kitty hair is what they used to call it, would be the best for strength and use a thin coat of filler to smooth it out. It's going on a 57 chevy, street and strip, with a 5.3.

At $140 on Amazon I figure that'd be a cheap intake.

Ugly is Overrated, but too each their own. You see Superchargers with similar designs on top. Anyway, they do accept 92mm TBs. I've opened up entry to even use 102mm TBs. Even modded them. Pretty sure holding boost wouldn't be issue.

You could always buy some custom covers. I haven't checked his prices lately but they used to be around $300 a few years ago. He can design them the way you want. BH Custom Designs on Facebook

That Amazon link is for the 08+ TBSS. It uses a gen4 MAP and doesn't have the vacuum nipple for the PCV. If you have a gen3 engine... part number 12580420 is an easier fit with the correct MAP port size and PCV nipple.

OP I'm running the TBSS (12580420) with a Nick Williams 92mm on a Gen3 LQ9
