I'm in the process of trying to start my motor on the stand before I put it in the car. When trying to connect the harness to the battery, I am not sure how I am supposed to do this.
I've got a 4.8 out of a 2001 Sierra with the stock harness. Just looking to start it right now. This looks like its supposed to connect to a battery, but I'm also pretty sure it would short it? Not sure what Im looking at The red box says "battery (+)" The wire coming out of the top right of this box was the alternator ground. Why would it be wired into the battery positive?

That wire is the alternator charging wire. That's why it is connected to the battery harness.
