Swapped an LQ4 into a 1979 Camaro
have sloppy stage 2 cam with a tune/rest is stock
no cats, 3” inch exhaust out the back
Car is popping during acceleration only till about 1600 ish rpm then runs and sounds completely normal.
was thinking it could be an exhaust leak as one of my clamps is black right where it could leak, picture below
The popping does sound like it’s coming from around this clamp, couldn’t see any leaks but it did sound like it was from around the clamp
No codes showing up, was wondering if anyone could tell me if they think it’s also an exhaust leak, can’t work on it for a few days so I just want to be prepared to check other potential things wrong with it.
Also just some more info, it used to do the same popping when it was cold so I would just let it warm up more before driving, now it is doing that same pop while warm but only during acceleration below like 1600ish rpm

Another edit, doesn’t happen when cold but will happen after the motor has been warm for a while, my guess is that it’s an exhaust leak because it started happening again a few minutes after it was warm so the exhaust heated up.

i put some links to Clips of it, the ones that are black are from inside the car and the other is outside, the sound is coming somewhere from the exhaust, can’t tell if it’s from where I think it’s leaking or the back
Did this happen right after the swap or has it been sounding/driving normal for a while before the popping started?
it just started the other day, and it doesn’t do it until a while after the engine warms up which makes me think it’s the exhaust getting hot and expanding
It doesn't sound like and exhaust leak to me from those videos.
now idk if this could be related but it happened after it rained kinda slow for about 2 days straight, from what I read online my only guesses would be coils, wires or plugs which the plugs are new and I thought if it was those it’d affect at all rpms, or an exhaust leak
Sounds like a good ol' intermittent miss. My Tahoe had one on #5 cyl., so I suspected a plug or wire. Pulled that wire, and discoverd it had worn thru on the steering shaft that it ran next to. The way it looked,it should not have worked at all! Yet it would not miss when steady running down the highway.
Bottom line, it could be as simple as a bad plug, wire, or coil, IF down to one cyl.
Any codes showing yet? If jumping between holes, plugs and/or wires likely.
I agree with G Atsma, Probably a miss. The cylinder misfires(not burning the fuel introduced into the cylinder) then sometime later it ignites that cylinder which is now overly saturated with fuel and you hear the backfire
