Default Best lower cost option for slightly louder and deeper exhaust sound.

I’m looking to make the exhaust of my 02 Firebird sound louder and deeper than stock but not extremely loud. One of the previous owner had cut a 2 inch hole in the exhaust before the muffler to make it louder and it sounded nice but it was just to loud on the inside of the vehicle, and I had to patch the hole to pass inspection. What are some lower cost mods I can do for under $500 that will achieve a increase of around 10 or so decibels with a deeper tone?

Magnaflows a good option, you maybe able to find a used cat back for that price if you shop around.

Unfortunately nothing new will be that cheap that's bolt on.

You can but just a muffler and have it welded in and that would be the cheaper option also depending on what a welder in your area charges

No, it didn't " Sound Nice "
You could re-fasion the exhaust piping and include a small or medium frame TURBO-Charger, that would sound NICE without adding a a lot of excess noise.

Installing bigger tips on your current exhaust will give it a small decibel bump without making much difference inside the vehicle assuming your exhaust terminates at the rear and not under the car.

I went Magnaflow on my LT/catless car. Nice and deep but, it really opens up when you lay into it. I had GMMG, Corsa and went back to the Magnaflow. The rasp killed it for me and I was not putting cats on.

Use a screwdriver and a hammer, punch some holes in the muffler. It will be both deeper, and louder. And, it's free.

A 3 inch cut out in the I pipe to the passenger side just before the rear wheel will do the trick and be cheap.

The cut out will also sound a little ghetto if just a basic bolt on car with stock compression & stock cam. Saying that because I liked the sound of open cut out on my 99T/A w/heads, cam headers etc. I don't particularly like the sound of the very same cutout & catback on my bolt on only 02 Z28 with just headers.

Put a cut out on the single pipe before the muffler. Cap it for inspection.

Magnaflow or Borla muffler (not sure if they sell a muffler-only). Small dual exhaust outlets will help it sound even deeper. (Everything the same, small outlets slightly reduce dB, but also lower the pitch).

Magnoflow makes an f-body specific muffler with the stock size inlet and outlets. I'd buy one of those, have it welded in, and call it a day.
