1998 LS1 with no pcv valve
Everything seems fine as is. No leaks, odor, or excessive oil consumption. Heads are a beautiful golden color. The underside of the valve covers are brown. Spark plugs look great. Motor runs fine.
I have always believed that pcv valves were a good thing, but everything seems fine without one. The reading I have done indicates a pvc valve is mandatory
It seems that converting to LS6 intake and valley cover is a good way to go, but unemployment prevents me from switching.
What would you do ?
In stock form the driver rear port was connected to the passenger rear port and then it ran to the intake manifold port. Notice the inline PCV valve at the end of the line before connecting to the hose on the intake manifold? You could do something like this by running a 3/8" T and connecting the back ports of the valve covers and then run a third line up to the intake manifold with an inline PCV valve at the intake manifold. You could also invest in a sealed catch can and have that line that would normally go to the manifold go into the can and then out of the can to the manifold with an inline PCV valve between the can and the intake port of the manifold.

I hesitate to change anything since everything seems fine as is.
I am mystified where the crankcase pressure is being relieved.
I don't understand the need for a catch can if the stock setup works properly as originally installed .
I don't understand why it was plumbed to both valve covers for pvc with fresh air being supplied to one of them instead of the conventional way of fresh air to one and pvc to the other.
I don't understand what the restrictor plate does in the driver's side cover.
I am considering adding a hose from driver's side v/c with a pcv inline to the intake and leaving the rear port capped off with front port connected as it is now to throttle body on the passenger side v/c.
I am getting a new pvc valve that will be connected to the left side v/c port and the intake port.
The rear right side v/c port will remain capped off.
It makes no sense to me to have a pvc and throttle body connection on the same v/c cover.
What was Chevrolet thinking?

If I was working I would upgrade to the LS6 intake and valley cover since it seems folks like those parts.
