Default 1998 LS1 with no pcv valve

My 1993 RX7 has a 98 LS1 that was installed by a great guy that has since lost his battle with cancer. I just realized there is no pcv valve installed . The hose from the throttle body to the front vent port on the passenger side valve cover is the only connection left. The intake port, rear vent port on the passenger side valve cover, and rear vent on driver's side are all capped off. The oil cap is not vented.
Everything seems fine as is. No leaks, odor, or excessive oil consumption. Heads are a beautiful golden color. The underside of the valve covers are brown. Spark plugs look great. Motor runs fine.
I have always believed that pcv valves were a good thing, but everything seems fine without one. The reading I have done indicates a pvc valve is mandatory
It seems that converting to LS6 intake and valley cover is a good way to go, but unemployment prevents me from switching.
What would you do ?

That dosen't sound right at all.

In stock form the driver rear port was connected to the passenger rear port and then it ran to the intake manifold port. Notice the inline PCV valve at the end of the line before connecting to the hose on the intake manifold? You could do something like this by running a 3/8" T and connecting the back ports of the valve covers and then run a third line up to the intake manifold with an inline PCV valve at the intake manifold. You could also invest in a sealed catch can and have that line that would normally go to the manifold go into the can and then out of the can to the manifold with an inline PCV valve between the can and the intake port of the manifold.

Thanks for the picture, from what I have read that hose system was discontinued years ago.
I hesitate to change anything since everything seems fine as is.
I am mystified where the crankcase pressure is being relieved.
I don't understand the need for a catch can if the stock setup works properly as originally installed .
I don't understand why it was plumbed to both valve covers for pvc with fresh air being supplied to one of them instead of the conventional way of fresh air to one and pvc to the other.
I don't understand what the restrictor plate does in the driver's side cover.
I am considering adding a hose from driver's side v/c with a pcv inline to the intake and leaving the rear port capped off with front port connected as it is now to throttle body on the passenger side v/c.

That would certainly work and really no need for a catch can. LS engines have ran for many many miles without the use of a catch can but it is a way to cut down on the gunk that finds it's way into the intake manifold.

sounds like a LS6 valley cover was used. check the front of the cover and see if theres a black hose that comes off it and goes to the tb. almost like a lazy U shape

As stated above there is a connection between the throttle body and forward right side v/c port. The rear right side v/c port, intake port, and left side v/c port are all capped off.
I am getting a new pvc valve that will be connected to the left side v/c port and the intake port.
The rear right side v/c port will remain capped off.
It makes no sense to me to have a pvc and throttle body connection on the same v/c cover.
What was Chevrolet thinking?

You could buy some 3/8 hose, a 3/8" T fitting and an inline PCV valve and do the same thing for a whole lot less. Hell you could probably even use 6 AN nylon braided line and still do it cheaper than buying an OEM replacement.

You mean the valley cover which has the built in PCV valve and the piece of 3/8 hose that connects to the intake manfold like the LS2's. The front port on the passenger valve cover and the only port on an LS2 and up valve cover still connected to the throttle body or air intake elbow.

I bought the pcv valve, 3/8 hose, straight connector that goes between the hose and "emission elbow" that holds the pcv and some vacuum caps at NAPA today for $57.13. I see no reason to connect pvc line to right side rear v/c port so I did not get a T. If I am wrong about that connection please explain why have a pcv and intake port on the same v/c ?
If I was working I would upgrade to the LS6 intake and valley cover since it seems folks like those parts.

i mean the ls6 valley cover with the built in pcv but yes goes from that barb too the intake just after the TB. And yes the passanger vavle cover front port to Tb. The rear passanger valve cover port is bloucked off with a rubber nipple and the drivers side valve cover is capped.
