its not a part FROM Hawks...just a kit put together by Hawks....you can buy those parts from GM if so inclined

Does it look like that I would need to cut the boss down for clearance, I was told that my engine being a 2001 that I would not need to have this done. Hawks is also telling me that its a direct fit with no cutting

I'm curious about this as well. My engine is from a 2000 Camaro SS donor car.

LS6 blocks do not need clearance for the cover.....LS1 do.....if you look up the other threads on here explaining the procedure you will find all this info....there is also a website that covers the conversion too....the threads on here have links to that website

Here is a link to make it easy. I did this 20 years ago on my '99 LS1 when I put on the AFR205 heads and big TSP 233/239 cam.

I Just didn't know if my block was slightly different being a 2001 I did read some info. that this year and newer you did not need to cut. I don't understand why Hawks is saying it's a direct fit with no cutting, I was not sure if their kit was built any different
Thanks Rich

If you have the bullseye on the passenger side front, you have a LS1 block. Some argue that the LS1 block is stronger than the LS6 block.

you have an ls1 block, the ls6 valley cover wont fit unless you grind off that oval part of the block that protrudes into the valley.

its not hawks part...its a GM part....a part designed to fit LS6 blocks.....some F bodys did get LS6 blocks , but not many.......it can be made to fit LS1 blocks with minor clearance....I had to clearance all the engines I did this conversion to....not hard at all to do

gnx7 posted the link to the how to article....I HIGHLY recommend you get new knock sensors and a knock sensor wiring harness to replace during this conversion

I'd be careful about replacing known-good knock sensors at this point. Looks like it's hit-or-miss with the replacements, even from GM. Some folks have had better luck with AutoZone stuff, some not. But there seems to be an issue at present with getting quality replacements. If what you have is good and low mile, I'd be hard pressed to dump it. Here is what happened to another member who decided to replace good, working sensors while he had the intake off:

Wow thanks for letting me know, I don't know what I should do now with changing the sensors. I was looking at the GM sensors, not sure on the milage of my engine but I think it was high. I was also going to change the cam and crank sensors so maybe that's not a good idea

one reason to replace the sensors....water gets in the wells and rusts the sensors out....and the metal contacts on the wiring harness rusts also ...and then the plastics tabs on the wiring harness are brittle from age and you break them removing it .....of course you dont know that til the intake is removed
