Default Examples of rasp.

I don't care if you all want to give me a bunch of crap for this question, but all this talk about raspy exhausts, and I don't know if I've ever pinpointed what rasp sounds like. I've downloaded like every single exhaust file on ls1sounds.com. Can someone find one of those clips that has a lot of rasp and let me know.

right now I have the slp D/D with Magnaflow muffler, and it sounds good for now. Next step is LT with catted Y, then comes GMMG

You will only hear rasp if you ditch the cats, which it doesn't look like you are doing, so why are you even worried about it?

If you are looking for a clip, find someone with the Loudmouth with an ORY...that is the epitome of rasp.

Also, you won't be able to hear it without a load on the engine...so listening to sound clips that just rev the engine or do a drive by at a consistant rpm won't make the rasp. As MeentSS02 said...MAC headers, catless y-pipe, and Loudmouth cat-back have it the worst I have ever heard.

With that exhaust, the rasp will be the worst in top gear at 2000 rpms and then floor it through about 3000 rpms...it is unmistakeable and quite horrible.

i have MACs adn ORY and it's horrible 2100-2500 with my dynomax bullet, so thats very close to what the loudmouth would be. It's quite obnoxious so I'm ordering a Borla XR-1 muffler to tone it down some. That will probably be as far as i can go.

if you wanna hear kidna what rasp sounds like, it reminds me of a tractor trailer downshifting and laying on the jake brake, it just screams!

It's only rasp if you go slowly through that rpm range. If you floor it through the range it sounds like pure power. In 4th gear you can hear me for miles. I'll get a clip up as soon as i can.

I used to have a catless y pipe with my mac headers a long time ago and I had the raspy sound until I put bullet mufflers in the y pipe.

If you go here http://www.magnaflow.com/04sound/domestic.htm and listen to the two camaro clips, is rasp the sound that is made after you get off the gas? I have always thought rasp was the sounds when you are decelerating, but I think I'm wrong.

I wouldn't worry about rasp too much when you're getting a ticket for doing 130 mph.

an easy way to think about rasp is that popping sound when you are accelerating in the range of 2100-2500. Have you ever heard an old truck with cherry pipes while the rpm's are dropping drastically? that is what it sounds like, except it is lot more rapid in effect

Being a former loudmouth owner, all i can really say on this subject is, you'll know it when you hear it. Its that sound that seems like its only reason for existance is to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up and give you this undying urge to claw at your ears. Grating, incessant, nasty, crappy noise. The opposite of a deep, smooth, mellow growl. Its also the sound that occurs at precisely the times your crappy, raspy exhaust is rattling/vibrating things in the interior of your car. Thats about it.

It sounds like a metal coffee can with a piece of metal rod rolling around it at a high rate of speed. John

I have nearly every single audio/video clip downloaded from ls1sounds.com. I have spent a lot of time listening to all the different exhaust sounds. However, because I'm not really sure what rasp sounds like, do any of you know off hand some of the sound clips that are a good example of rasp? Could you post a link for me? Thanks a ton.

Ferocity02, thanks a ton for the links. That is exactly what I needed to help me "hear" what rasp is. For everyone else that replied, thanks as well.

However, I'm really getting sick and tired of seeing someone post on every other thread, "amazing what a search will bring up", or something like that. Just because some of you "experts" mostly post answers instead of questions doesn't mean you have to constantly be reprimanding us newcomers to the f-body world for not searching every single time, or not being able to find exactly what we are looking for. I'm not trying to be an ***, but you can do without the condisending, "do a search" remarks most of the time. (however, this is not true for those questions like, 'what's the best sounding catback'".)

I probably just opened mouth and inserted foot...oh well.

Um, this might seem dumb, but pronounce the word "rasp" and hiss on the 's' and articulate the 'p' really hard. If it doesn't work, then too bad, I tried. Later.
