I stooped by the shop today and asked the owner how they bolted on. He told me that the meachanic that did my headers did 4 LS1s before. It took him 8 hrs and the headers fit better then the other ones that he did but still he had some problems. Also I recieved in one post that I should change the maf air flow. Where do I buy the device to do it and is it hard to do by yourself?

Why would you need to mess with the MAF? I know LT's make the car rich, is that what is messed with when you get a "tune"?

oh BTW thanks for checking about the fitment, I guess its dif. for all cars....

Thanks for the link. The car ran a little rich before I added the headers but now I can smell the fumes really bad when I'm behind the exhaust. I'm not sure about the tune thing either. I either need to cut some of the gas flow or add more air I guess.

Today I when I started the car the SES light came on. Would it be from an O2 sensor and would that be the cause of my mpg decreasing? Th car seems to run the the as when the headers were installed.

If you can smell the fumes, it is probably a rich code. Everyone, how does the MAFT translator work? do you plug it in and forget about it? or do you plug in and adjust?

Why do the cars run richer with LT's? Is it because of the scavenging of the cylinder?

There are adjustments to be made and it can help but it's still best to just skip the MAFT and put that cash towards a real dyno tune/LS1 Edit.

When getting the car tuned, is it difficult to get the A/F ratio back to 14.7:1?

It can be dependent on some of the components/parts/mods chosen but in most cases no, it's not too difficult as long as the tuner knows what they're doing.

Yes, Cartek in Garwood, NJ ( www.cartek.net ) but that's a bit of a hike for you, worth the trip though.

The car wont deviate from 14.7 while in closed loop. The smell is prolly because of no cats and running a little richer (switching to maintain 14.7) A quick tune will help this rich condition and really is nothing to worry about

Theres no actual dyno tuning places that I know of in the area. The shop where I got the headers on at said about using the predator or hypertech tuner. I am not sure if they know how to use LS1 edit. Which is the best tuner to use without dynoing the car and easy to understand?

While the true LS1 Edit or HP Tuners dyno tune is ideal and WAY better than any 'handheld' tuner, I would get the Predator over the Hypertech if forced to choose one of them.
There is also the Superchips Microtuner, Crane and Vinci models as well.

The SES light went off today. Did the computer have to recalibrate and is that caused the light to turn off?

Did you run the car with the cutout and lid first? Then you programmed it and the car ran .2 and 1.4mph faster? Thanks for the info.
