I've seen people use the blank (oil cooler) spot right above the oil filter.

I'll snap a pic later, but mine is tapped in right above the oil filter.

I dont see how it could fit about the oil filter with headers, the autometer sending unit is HUGE!

Huh?

Are you talking about the same thing that we are? We drilled a hole and installed the sender. It's about 2" long total, and only 1/4 is exposed to connect your wire to it..

This picture shows a water temp sender installed into the proper adapter. The oil temp sender looks the same minus the metric adapter. Pretty small little unit.

No no... the thread is about oil PRESSURE. The sender for oil pressure pickup is huge. I dont see how it will fit if you tap into that plate above the oil filter. Temperature yes, the sensor is much smaller.

I put mine in the location where the stock oil pressure sending unit was (using a brass adapter). The Autometer sending unit is bulky, but you just have to get a short section of -4AN hose, and go from the block to the sending unit. Then the bulkiness isn't a concern.

I prefer to have an oil pressure reading from the highest point possible in the engine, and the factory location accomplishes this nicely.

...or for even better accuracy, use a mechanical gauge, and you don't have to worry about the bulky sender at all...

i was wondering which would be better(mech-elec). could a mechenical gauge be mounted in the stock loacaton on the back of the intake manifold, because i brok the wire from the stock plug so i dont have a stock gauge anymore.

You guys are talking apples and oranges. The electric OP sending unit is huge. The mechanical sending unit is as pictured.

Yes, you just have to get the correct adapter, since the threads in the block are metric.

There is a place on the 'net called Autobarn which sells a set of brass adapters to do what you need... http://www.autobarn.net/eqoilpreselt.html

Doesnt your PCM require an oil pressure reading? I thought it did so in case it dropped below a certain point the engine would go in to some kind of safe mode? Or am I thinking the Northstar?

The PCM doesn't know oil pressure.

Thats good to know. I was planning on putting mine in the port down by the oil filter. If I can use the one behind the intake then that would be even better!

I use an electrical sender.

I tapped into the cover, installed a length of steel braided line and placed the sender over and away from teh headers.

What parts were required to do this? This idea sounds totally doable, great idea! What about tapping into the stock sender for signal? Would that work?

1/8" NPT tap about 12" of line and a couple AN fittings.

The rest of the necessary fittings came with the Autometer guage.

I attached the sender to the inside frame rail, close to the fuel lines.

The "cover" I have is actually an adaptor I bought from LG motorsports that allows me to run the oil through a cooler.

But the factory cover should be plenty of meat.

If you look on the top of the water pump, there is a flat area. I drilled and tapped there for a water temp sender. And where the oil level sensor is in the pan, I adapted that opening for oil temperature.

Mitch could you throw up a couple pictures of where you drilled for the water temp and oil pressure sending units?
