Default QTP vs Kooks?

Is there any reason one is better than the other, in Headers only, Kooks i've always heard were "the best of the best" but i've also heard great form QTP, i have yet to see a comparison between the two or reasons why people like one better, I'm going for stainless steel and i'm not worrying about y-pipe differences because i'm not gunna have one, i'm gunna have TSP true duals.

It is my understanding that the two are almost (if not) exactly the same design. The standard advice is to get whichever one is cheaper or on sale at the time.

Don't ignore Stainless Works. They come with a great Stainless Y pipe that has the Random Tech Cats.

QTP and Kooks are both based off the Grott design and fit very very well. I'm not sure about the Stainless Works design, but I've heard lots of good things about them as well even though they are not as common. Go with what you can find the best deal on and you should be a happy camper.

I love my QTP's. I had them coated and they fit good.

It's hard to compare when I only have experience with QTP. I can tell you the QTP 1 3/4 race style header fit perfect on my 01. I have read tons of install stories about having to remove this or that to install headers. My QTP's went right up without having to remove/grind/pry etc. anything. No leaking, no fitment issues, no bumping the floor or anything. Factory spark plug wires do not touch, spark plugs are fairly easy to change. I have TSP duals as well. I paid 724.00 for mine shipped with 02 extensions & gaskets. Couldn't be happier.

I bought the fourth one on the list. No ceramic. I have read a ton of opinions on ceramic vs Stainless Steel. What I gathered is Ceramic Coating is not needed on Stainless Steel although some may disagree. My car runs like raped ape without it.

Definately do not need coating if you are getting 300 series stainless headers. The 300 series material will not rust, plus they have a very low thermal conductivity so they won't heat up the engine compartment. Only reason to coat the stainless if for the BLING affect and you can polish the stainless if you want that.

I think that the stainless Y pipe is an option (as are the cats obviously), their standard Y pipe is mild or aluminized steel as far as I know.

QTP, Kooks, and PPC are all the Groty style headers...all stainless steel...all look the same.

There may be variation between each tube for instance length or separation? the collectors are also different in all of them especially the High Velocity Merge collector.
The Y-pipes now are also very different. From my knowledge QTP has the better on with the flowmaster merge collector. the PPC and Kooks i believe are identical.

Price QTP is most expensive and Kooks and PPC can be had for about the same price.
(800) (600) or so it said the last time i checked

Y pipe not included

Yes I noticed it right off the bat actually, I was merely commenting on what was said about the SW Y pipe...nothing to do with your situation.

Yeah, that is what I was going to say. Any of these will perform about the same....as in VERY well. There may be a slight advantage in the merge collector that you can get on the QTPs (I think). And PPCs come ceramic coated.

LS1LT1: It's my understanding that Stainless Works only offers Stainless Y Pipes for the Camaros whereas Kooks and QTP do not or charge extra. Stainless Works is a very good deal when you get the complete package including the Random Tech CATS.

Yeah as WAHUSKER said I think the PPCs only come in coated mild steel, not stainless.

Oh ok maybe, I just thought I had read on their site that they were available both ways but maybe not.

i went with the QTPs over the kooks because of the QTPs having a true merge Y pipe(more power ) and i got thier HV merge collector header (high velocity merges) at the end of the headers.. they are sweet!
