Default all those with QTP header setups

two questions for ya....why do they describe their y pipe as an off road y pipe even on the catted version...and second and more importantly....is their y pipe stainless? I hope?

its probably called that b/c it is still not 50 state legal.

in cali, they have a visual test where you must leave the cats in the stock location. if you fail this test, you cant get your car smogged

I have one of their dual cutout ORYs and it is just aluminized pipe. Not sure if they make them in coated or stainless?

Yeah, the y-pipe is aluminized. They don't make a stainless one.

I'm in the northeast so weather is factor over here...not like you west coast peoples...j/k I wish I lived over there...I really could get used to the warm weather right about now...

I think I remember reading somewhere that the reason the y-pipe is aluminized is because the flowmaster merge collector they use doesn't come in stainless. So instead of having it all be stainless except for the merge they just made it all aluminized. Don't quote me on that though. That and its cheaper than stainless.

That, and if you want a good seal, you are going to have to weld all of the seams. And there are a lot of them on QTP's y-pipe. Stainless requires a TIG welder, while alumininum can be MIG welded (which can be found anywhere). I think aluminum holds up really well, but if you really need stainless, look into Stainless Works or Dynatech Supermaxx systems.

the headers are....the y pipe is not...the y pipe is what I'm worried about...I've had bad experiences with aluminized exhausts...they typically only last for 3 years...on a cat back thats fine...but rusting off the cats and from the headers...that'll be a problem...plus for what they cost I really can't see spending 500 bucks for another y pipe every 3 years...,someone prove me wrong I really want them and I know they produce power...kooks is a great company don't get me wrong I just don't wanna look back and say I shouldn't have gone down this road

I have rarely seen an aluminized Y pipe rust badly, I have even seen some bare Y pipes show NO surface rust after a few years as well. Use some POR 15 or VHT high temp paint (with some touch up every few years if spots pop up) and it will possibly lost forever.
That high flowing, well made $310.00 off road 3" Y pipe would possibly be over $600.00 if it were stainless, between the higher cost of the tubing and the greater labor time needed to bend/fabricate/weld it together.
Kooks Y isn't stainless either and I think the Stainless Works Y has a stainless steel 'option' but isn't standard as far as I know, and it of course is smaller (2.5") as well.
I'd go for the QTP set up.

QTPs...I like the details/quality and classic/proven Grott design, I like the collectors and I like the 3" Y pipe with a proper Flowmaster merge collector meeting up to the cat back.

go with the QTPs.. you'll be fine....i have their ORY... i've had it for a while.. i live in NY.. it snows here.. and i daily drive the car.. i have had no problems.. The other companies dont offer the QTP True merge collector in the Y pipe for better flow

in the other hand before i had QTPs i had Jethot coated headers and Y.. they rusted in a few months.
