Default Rear exit duals?

I need some options for rear exit duals. I found a set of duals for cheap and I want to put some XR-1's on them and make them rear exit. Im thinking of under the axle setup, but not sure about clearance issues on a lowered car. But over the axle is expensive and Lane said he needs to use 2.5'' pipe instead of 3''.

If you are lowered, I'd go with the 2.5" pipe, much like will be done on mine here in a couple of weeks. I need the clearance, and I'll live with whatever power loss that might entail. Personally, I'd rather have a nice, tucked exhaust rather than a scraped up, 3" system that I drag over everything.

you would be much better off going 2.5" over the axle

Have you thought about going over axle w/pipes then mufflers behind the rear end. Mufflers placed in the same area as stock or positioned like the C5.

My buddy has under the axle Borla true duals, but his car is stock height. If you're lowered and want duals out the back. Go with 2.5" and you should be ok. Just make sure everything is positioned correctly during the install.

I just did 2.5 inch duals under the rear with magnaflow mufflers out the back. It's coming from TSP X 3" before the rear. Went to the track yesterday to see how much power I lost with the pressbent 2.5's and mufflers. I don't understand why but the car ran a new best of 12.0 @ 118.5, so it's not restricting too much. Then I uninstalled the under axle muffler setup to try and get 11's. (flanges at the bullets) Needless to say, with the dumps and the weather not as cool as my morning run I still couldn't match the full exhaust run for times and mph.
Under the axle works pretty good for me being stock height, I'll just have to figure out how to post some pictures after I go shopping with the wife tonight. Since I didn't seem to lose much hp, I'm alittle puzzled I guess.

my setup, theres absolutely no clearance problems with under the axle. the lowest spot in the car is the headers and the x pipe. i got 2.5 X with Dynomax bullets.

I am just running the XR1's dumped and don't think it is that bad. Nothing compared to the bullets I had.

Ok sorry, the above link hopefully works now.

BTW, last night at Tues test and tune I did some nose diving braking at the track to make the 1st return road which of course makes the backend rise up alot and had no trouble with the exhaust hitting.
I always use drive on lifts, but if the car is raised on a chasis lift I would probobly remove the tips anyway although I haven't checked the clearance yet on fully extended rear suspension.

how much did it cost you to have it run under the axle? it looks like it couldnt be all that much, seems like a simple bend on each pipe and weld it all together

It's very cheap to go under axle. Also very easy to remove and reinstall dumps in my case. You definately want to have them weld flanges at the bullets so you can remove them. I also had them weld flanges to my dumps as well so I can put them back on if wanted.
In my case I spent more money because I got the stainless steel Magnaflow mufflers and stainless tips with 6 flanges altogether.($400+) If I could do it all over again I'd not do the mufflers. It's too quiet now for me. Of course, in 10 minutes it can be loud again with the dumps.
If you just get pipes bent with flanges and get your own tips for them to weld it should be under $200 depends on the shop. The shop I use here now is alittle pricey but the best quality and welds around. Believe me, I've had cheaper setups at other shops and the welds look it.
The car even with the quieter Magnaflows still has the notorious sound of true duals and no rasp.

Man, that is definitely the coolest exhaust setup I've seen in a long time. That's exactly what I want. Would you care if I printed the pics to take with me to the exhaust shop? Do you have one from the side that has a good view of the "X" and the pipes in front of it.

Thanks in advance, if you don't, it's not a big deal man, I just think it would help the exhaust guy.

I hate, HATE, loud exhaust, so I won't need all those flanges, but I definitely like the idea of the out-the-back dual's. Do you, or does anybody, have a sound clip of an exhaust like this? I've looked on LS1Sounds, but I don't see any that say the mufflers are behind the axle too...

Thanks in advance, that's a killer setup!
