Default K&N FIPK Question.

Who here has the K&N FIPK system on their car. I was lookin at one the other day at Auto Zone and was thinking abut getting one. Would anyone here recommend getting one? If so how much HP does it usually add. In Camaro preformance magazine it said it added 15 horsepower, if that is true im going out to get one tommorow.

I have it....you'll gain as much as any other intake lid-type deal. Some think it works better then a lid @ highway speeds. I dunno, I've never run a lid on this car. Definitely helps tho.

Go with the lid. Some have said that the FIPK tends to soak up hot air. The lid gets air from the bottom and the front of the car. With the lid you can also use the SSRA for even more hp.

I have the K&N FIPK and love it. It looks awsome and adds a little something different if you show the car. Is it any better or worse than a lid? It's all personal preferance.

I think that the FIPK looks pretty good, but if it adds the same power as a lid, I will just go with the lid.

Well I have FIPK and it does add more horses (with SLP or SS hood). Not only does it look better, it seals perfectly, unlike many lids, and it comes with bellows (both) so that helps airflow also, also it has an audio factor where you actually hear the motor sucking air kinda like a mini supercharger.
Also I hooked my 2 NOS lines in the front plate and the visual effect is awsome.
I had a lid before BTW.

I have teh Volante system and it is very similiar to the K&N. It is shaped teh same with the difference being the selaed box that comes with it. It seems to work extememly well with my hood since the only air that it sicks is from the opening in my hood. Im my opinion it would work best with a WS6, an Ultra-Z hood and the Mecham hood. With those hoods it seems to act like a true ram air system.

I payed a about 250 bucks for mine. One thing that I really like about the FIPK is that the front and back of the filter is finished off in REAL carbon fiber; not like the simulated CF that some lids are made of.

I don't think it's worth 250$ You should get a refund and get a lid for 100$ and do the free ram air mod. just my .02 though.

Lightbulb FIPK gets my vote

I installed an FIPK system last week on my 02 SS and love it so far. I bought it online for $325 and installed it in about an hour. The instructions that come with it explain every step of the process very clearly. The only problem I ran into was removing the MAF sensor from the plastic intake hoses. This was easily solved (after my wife and I studied the problem for a few minutes) by heating the whole assembly with a hair dryer. This allowed the plastic to soften just enough to ease its' grip on the aluminum MAF. When we started the car, the new sound was nice. You could hear the sound of rushing air being sucked into the filter. And the look of the system is really sharp. Looks like something you might see on a show car. I think you'll be happy with the FIPK.
