Default Need help removing exhaust tips from old exhaust

Hey guys, I recently switched from my LM with CME tips to a Hooker Cat Back. My problem is I can't seem to get the damn tips out of the old pipes!

I've hacked off the 90* elbows, but it looks like the clamp actually bent the pipe around the tips and left an indentation in it. No matter how much I turn and pull, I can't get them off.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance
Matt

I would sure like to know how you get them off, if you do.
I tried like hell but no budge. I was not prepared to introduce
them to Mr. Sawzall....

Maybe some careful work with a blow torch might work if you can get the metal hot enough to make it slightly more flexible.

I had the same issue. I used a dremel with a "cutoff" wheel and basically cut a couple of 2" long grooves longitudinally on two sides of the outer pipe. You can then twist a screwdriver in the groove to open up and loosen the outer pipe. I have used this method several times and it works for me. Of course the outer pipe is now scrap.

Finally got the f'ers off. Rubber mallets are your friend. I tried lines in the outer pipes and prying them open, but I used the sawzall and it just wasn't happening; I couldn't get it to cut that direction. The dremel would have worked though, wish I thought of it

I banged on those bastards so much that I could barely grip the mallet after about a half hour.

By the way jimmyblue, by hacking off the 90* elbows, I meant where they connected to the exhaust, not the tips. I tried like hell to save them, but after hammering and bending and prying and cursing, they became all deformed.
