On a related note; what is the best way to mount an AMW catch can on a ls1 with egr? AMW says the bracket they sell is only for non egr cars.

I just mounted mine right in front of the power steering pulley. I just drilled into the firm plastic stuff surrounding the radiator. It's a great location...doesn't get too close to the pulley (about an inch clear) and is a great place to access it to drain it.

I use a little $1.99 plastic fuel filter, the kind that has
inlet and outlet on top and the filter in a sump. It looks
a little shade-tree and hasn't caught anything much (I
don't seem to use any oil) but you can't beat the $.
If you painted it black it would disappear.

Thumbs up

Not just does the AMW piece look good... it works well too.

Mine is mounted next to the A/C dryer... where traction control normally goes, I'm lucky my car came from the factory with no traction control.

I have heard this method can alter crankcase pressure and that over time it can lead to reduced ring seal and blow by. Can anyone confirm this?

The PCV valve is a flow-limiter anyway. Not to mention all the
hose. If you have substantial blow-by then it will be overwhelmed
and crankcase pressure will rise, regardless. PCV is another
emissions widget that works at low throttle, fine, but at high
cylinder pressures and high blowby, fugeddit.

I figure those little filters can flow well more than the PCV valve
itself will allow. Not to say there aren't "better" catch-cans
but none cheaper. If you draw a lot of oil though, I'd go for
something bigger. I put mine on as an experiment and just
left it be until it needs emptying. Then I'll put on those
compressed-air oil separators I have around here somewhere.
