Angry come in here to cry for me

welp, i am thouroughly depressed right now. i finally went ahead and bought a F.A.S.T intake and throttle body, started the install today, and went for a supper break just as I was lining up the intake to see how it would look. Finish supper come outside not remembering where I was at, and then lined up the bolt holes and torqued down the intake only to start hearing crack crack snap. Look inside the intake from the front and see raised plastic and went OH ****! I didnt take out the coolant pipes and cracked up the whole bottom of my new intake really damn bad in several spots. I removed the intake and took off the top portion only to see where the crack lines are and minor raised plastic. i got people telling me that i can/should just epoxy patch it or what not, but i dont think i want that on my mind always wondering if its still somewhere/somehow leaking or came off, and if its costing me more power than its gaining. its just not worth it. so now i guess its back to the drawing board. either i find a place to get another cheap intake, or maybe i can somehow buy a bottom half. either way, thanks for hearing me out.

Jaime

Oh man...that sucks. I don't know about patching it, but you can buy a new bottom piece directly from FAST...good luck.

Thanks, but I think Ive just come to the decision that Im not going to risk trying to fix it. It'll always be in the back of my mind that it might just be causing damage to my motor or causing me to lose power. I'll cut my losses, put the original back on and save my pennies. Theres always next year...

Well I was just looking at it some more, its only hairline fractures on the bottom part of the intake, the center and top parts are fine, so the bottom of the intake has just got some raises and those cracks, im being tempted to think that if i patched it from the bottom carefully that it'll still be good to go...so im not sure anymore. I'll wait to hear back from FAST.

blah

Hmm, I just got to thinking again. I really like my car, and my motor. What if whatever i patch it with has a different reaction to heat than the intake material, and causes hotspots in the intake etc, its just not worth it. I'll cut my losses and be more careful next time, like I usually am. I dont want to put something on my car that will always be in the back of my head where im wondering if i am losing more power than its gaining me. So on that note I'll try to see if I can get a new lower half, if not, the stock one goes back on till I can afford something else.

i believe your thinking like this is an old school manifold, but it's just air flowing and not to much heat. But it is hard to tell without seeing exactly how bad it is.

Thanks all. Im usually super **** when it comes to my car. I installed everything in sig myself. Never had a prob once, and its alot more intense stuff than a simple intake. I just was a little bit too excited I suppose and never read the instructions properly. Now here I am.

Default Fix It!

I'm a 14 year bodyman, with lots of experiance on plastic. I think it can be repaired. With the right method & material. 3M riggid plastic repair or a product called fusor witch is similar. This stuff is very good. The 3M is even black. And yes you need to do both sides of it. take a small disc grinder with about 36 grit disc, V it out in the middle of the crack about an inch on both sides of the crack. And both sides of the intake. Make sure to get the plastic to lay flat not raised, snap it back down flat. Mix the 2 part material together good, spread very smoothly on both sides, let dry maybe 1 hr. sand smooth as you can get it. Then maybe 1 more coat to get really smooth. let dry over night & it'll be ready to install. Make sure to take of the coolant lines this time.lol This stuff will handle a pretty good amout of heat, plus there's no shock or impact to make it come back. It'll work if done right. good luck with whatever you do.

Thanks, sounds like a good suggestion but I'll always be afraid that maybe some of it has come out and gone into my motor. I dont think I can live like that.
