Do not use 20w-50, it's a little heavy. The owners manual specifically says not to. For the brand Mobil 1, amsoil and german castrol seem to be recommended the most. I myself have used standard valvoline thus far with a fram filter. lol Going to change that pretty soon.

I run mobil1 10W30 in my car. Works good for me. Amsoil is a good synthetic as well. For conventional oil I would run valvoline.

Do a search, there was a real good thread about oil no to long ago.

In about a few hours you're going to get tons or responses about the German Castrol (should have put this in the internal engine section ) 0w 30. Tests show it has the best wear of any oil out there, even the mobil 1s. Do a search on a guy named Patman and you'll be amazed at what you find, this guy knows his ****. And that oil your using....i don't think anyone uses that.

I have used Valvoline in the past. I used it in 2 327's that were rebuilt. They both have had regular oil changes (3000 miles or less) and have had good care. They both use a lot of oil. My 67 camaro that I am driving now is one of them, and uses a least a quart every 1000 miles. It only has 30,000 miles on the rebuild. My elcamino that I am putting the LS 1 in had the other 327. I have started using a phillips bulk oil (15-40w) that the place I work uses. My family truckster (mazda minivan) has 180,000 miles on it. It had lifter noise at 60,000 miles (when I bought it) and I was using valvoline. I swithced to the phillips, and the lifter noise went mostly away. My camaro now gets the same phillips oil too.

I was planning on running the mobil in my LS1, so I am going to sit back and see what reply's you get. I too am going to search "patman" because knowledge is better that advertizements.

patman will tell you that mobil 1 0w40 is a good choice...but he will recommend the german castrol...it is hard to find...so if you can't fine it you will be fine running the mobil 1

ANY modern, name-brand oil of 5w-30 or 10w-30 is called for. 20w-50 is too heavy.

Synthetics are best, but more expensive. If you've got an oil change fever then it's advisable to go with conventional oil. Synthetics will give you better protection and a cleaner engine but it will become mighty expensive if you change every 3k miles.

I have yet to be convinced that German Castrol is significantly better than Mobil1 or Amsoil. That's just me. Some swear by it. Whatever your view, it certainly can be difficult to find. So, unless you enjoy the thrill of the chase and have a lot of spare time, you may want to go with something a little more readily available.

There are a lot of threads in the forum about which oil is better, as has already been mentioned. However, without hard numbers it's only an opinion.

Don't buy Fram filters. Go with Wix, Pure One, Mobil1, K&N, or Purolator.

My $.02 worth.
