gutted cats with stock catback?

if i gutted my cats with the stock catback would it sound any louder at all? thanks

I would say yes, it would definitely be louder. I have never heard a setup like that, so I don't know how much louder. Probably have a bit more rasp to it.

how do you gut the cats? just take the y-pipe off? and then jab a metal rod through them and knock everything out?

Yes, that's all you need to do. Be prepared to deal with the SES light you'll soon be looking at. Either O2 simulators or tuning will take care it it.

BTW, why are you wanting to gut the cats? I can tell you from experience that they're not the restriction in the exhaust...the manifolds are. If you want a louder exhaust, a cutout is a more effective way to increase power while gaining sound quality. Gutted cats don't have a good sound quality in my experience.

Yea go with the cut out it sounds really bad ***. U dont need to take the y-pipe out to gut the cats, the cats unbolt on the 00+ cars so u just unbolt them and take them out.

I agree with Patrick and GT. I have basically what you are asking about. I have LT header that run back to the stock muffler with the QTEC closed. It really is not much louder at all idling, so don't get your hopes up. I had it next to my buddys 01 SS stocker, and only a good ear could tell any difference. Accelerating it is noticeably louder, but not extreme. I would say its like a mild catback. Surpisingly, I have no rasp (that I can hear). It has the factory rumble, just amplified a bit.
