Default Open Header on daily driver

could I do this?

get a tune to delete the rear o2's and run open headers with a small 3inch extension?

say if I had a foot and a half after the longtubes of 3inch piping pointing downwards would it hurt the engine at all?

how would it sound?

Funny, I actually have LTs and TSP Duals and for the last 2 weeks Ive been running open headers because of an "incident", lol.

Its crazy loud...makes the duals sound quiet...you'll get pulled over everywhere.

You could. The extension will keep the O2's from going nucking futs with outside air contaminating them. I ran open headers for a few weeks a couple years ago...it's not something you want to do with a daily driver. You could never get on it without getting way too much attention drawn to yourself, it's very loud. It does sound BADASS though. I will get cutouts to open header sometime so I can hear them with the cam thumping.

It sounds amazing. Although i must say it's not as loud as everyone says it is....until you get above 3 grand and then it SCREAMS LIKE A WILD BANSHEE. It's pure bliss to hear while it's going through 6k. Normal driving it will kind of sound like a diesel but much better. Some like it, some don't. I have a video of mine that i'll try to put up.

I'm all for loud exhausts, but IMHO running open headers is just idiotic and asking for trouble. After a day or two, we'll see a post about how the cops are picking on you.

I wouldn't do it that long, I'd wait longer before installing them if that's the case. A week or two should be enough.

Alright,
Sorry for the rant, I thought you wanted this as a permanent exhaust setup.. Just be ready for the fumes and vibrations.

Right, like I said the sensors won't go nucking futs that way.

It's very loud, and really is overkill on the street especially for a daily driver. You can't talk to the person next to you when accelerating at all and you get an awful lot of attention. It sounds very, very, very nice but it would get OLD in a hurry on a daily driver.

Good luck keeping front o2 sensors happy...I dont see how they will last long at all being so close to open air. If you're gonna do this get it tuned for open loop. And for a daily driver no way. You may like it for a little while, but give it time and you'll hate it.

rear O2 isn't what people are talikng about, they are talking about the fronts. being so close to ambient air, unless your headers are perfectly tuned, you will get some fresh air traveling back up the collector every so often, and it will start throwing the O2 sensor for a loop, thinking the car is lean, then not lean, and so on. the PCM will be trying to match injector pulsewidth to a basically 'dirty' O2 signal.

As long as your running 16-18" extensions you should not have to touch the tune. My A/F sits just about the same whether I'm running an exhaust or not. On the street it will get old real quick, part throttle under 3K sounds like ****.

IT ISN"T AS LOUD AS EVERYONE SAYS IT IS. I've had it for a year now and i still love it. You can still listen to the radio and have conversations. You must point the pipe outwards. And the fumes aren't near as bad as a cammed car. And yes you will need to tune it or you will be running EXTREMELY rich up high.

I had mine open for a few days once, got more compliments than ever at the time, but it was too loud.

If you don't think it's as loud as everyone says, and you can listen to the radio and have conversations, asnwer me this:

Exactly how much pipe do you have after the collector? No mufflers, just pipe?

The extensions must make it a lot quieter than true open headers, cause true open headers really are that loud.

I have cutouts welded in right after the collectors. Don't get me wrong it's loud, but it's no louder than my friend's cammed ws6 with 1 cutout. Or maybe I've just had it so long I'm just use to it now. The cutouts may make it quieter too. Also, i have 2.5 inch pipes. I don't think that would make much of a difference but the lts vs mids would.

Open headers and a cutout are a different story. A good portion of your exhaust is still heading down your exhaust system and the sound is being dissipated.

I had open headers on a Cutlass for a couple of days and it was hard to think inside the car.
