The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
1) Torque arm mounting bolts both the rear bolts, and especially the front ones. Where they attach to the transmission. I've broken those bolts already and had to put in a relocation kit.
2) Rear sway bar end-links, those bushings could be dried out and no longer holding the sway bar tightly. Or they could be simply not tight from the factory or prior repairs.
3) Lower control arms, both ends. You could have a loose bolt there. The ones that attach to the body of the car MUST be on tight to compress the bushing. A lot of "clunking" sounds often come from those.
4) Top and bottom rear shock bolts. Peel the carpering in the trunk and check out those bolts, they could have come loose.
5) Rubber rear spring isolators. One could have fallen out and you have the body of the car resting directly on the spring.
6) Panhard rod. Those have bolts at each end that should not be loose.
All the above with the exception of #5, involve bolts that if not tightened properly could cause the piece to grind along some of the thread bolts, giving you that "loose bolt in a hole" sound.
If that don't fix it, kill a chicken, a goat and start digging for bones under your driveway.
Good luck. Let us know what you've found...
it is 02, 20xxx miles on it, so it isn't very old in terms of miles and has been driven by an adult the whole time, never taken to the track, and I dont get on it very often
oh and one more way to describe it. The sound bolts make when they are fully tightened by an impact wrench minus the wrench sound, but in rapid succession about 4-5 times...
are you only hearing this noise??
or is the entire rear of your car shaking violently?
i wonder if its possible thats just the sound of a non catted ypipe at around that rpm where it rattles and shakes making a similar sound???
