Default PORTED MAF questions

I'm gona do it.. thats for sure.. `

gona do it right ... I got a M6.

now... I've been told by many that the power you get from the MAF porting is mostly from the PCM adding timing.. that is good ... but later on when I cam the car is it gona end up becoming to lean at 6500rpms?

any input would be great.

Best advice I could give you is to not mess with the MAF. If you are dead set on doing it though, I have a set of ported ends I'll sell you for cheap $25 + shipping

I gained a little from the ported ends. I never had any problems with them and the stock cam.

After I installed the cam it was really lean. Swapped the stock ends back on and all is well now.

it' one of those toss up things. on the wife's car it made about the same power until peak. there, it made 2 rwhp more. it was after peak where it gained almost 8 rwhp as you can see by the graph.

Unless you have the ability to tune for this modification, I'd leave it alone. The tuning software that is available these days is finally making it more of a reality to be able to tune for MAF mods, but the MAF is just another one of those things that has its grubby little fingers in the fueling calculations. I personally run a descreened 85mm 5-wire truck MAF, but I'm running in speed density, so it isn't getting any type of airflow reading from it.

yeah there are lots of people making lots of power with stock MAF's. but it is up to you. stock maf's are good up to like 650hp I believe. that may not be exact but billy lawler at proven performance has used the stock one on a 650hp car. and it works fine.

Don't mess with your MAF. If you are considering adding timing do it correctly with tuning. You will save yourself alot of headaches when you begin to mess with one of the most important sensors in your car.

Simply get a programmer or get tuning software. You will see better results, and have the option of fixing any problem with the push of a button.
