Question Flowmaster Muffler/Exhaust

Anyone know anything about Flowmaster for a '98 LS1? I can't decide which exhaust system to install.

They dont flow verry well at all, I would look in to something else. Check out the hooker or the magnaflow. Type flowmaster in the search button you'll have plenty of bad thing to rad about.

Flowmaster = crap on our cars. The only way I would run one was if I really liked the sound, then I would couple it with a cutout for performance.

Click on my sig pic for hundreds of exhaust clips. Pick the one you like and run with that! There aren't any other "bad" exhausts that I can think of except the Flowmaster.

Just save yourself the time and get the Hooker. I love mine. Quiet inside like stock but growling outside like a beast. Cant wait to get my LT's & ORY. It should really come to life then.

I wouldn't get the flowmaster if I was you. If you are going to spend the money, at least get a good flowing muffler unless you are doing it just for sound. Replacing the tips won't help the fact that the muffler it'self flows like crap. Bigger tips won't pull more air out of the restrictive flowmaster.

Flowmaster and cutout sound great--1-3 hp less than a straight through muffler--not much really, considering you get that classic sound..

From what I've seen it's more like 5-7rwhp on a stock car and 12-15+rwhp with heads and cam. IMO I think of a classic flowmaster sound on a mustang. The LS1's don't sound any more special with a flowmaster than they do with any other muffler out there. I'd rather have a good flowing muffler, so I don't have to drive around everywhere with my cutout open to bypass a poor flowing flowmaster. My car is loud with the cutout open and screams "please give me a ticket."

I know tips dont increase flow but it did dampened the noise. Also I had the two pipes coming that were 2.25 out replaced with 2.50 which increased flow. Plus it came on the car when i bought it so its one less thing i have to spend money on. I have seen some threads that say magna hoe is just as bad. that people like hooker for a cheap solution and ofcourse corsa or gmmg for the rich people

Magnahoe is not just as bad, not even close. Magnaflow is in fact probably the best, besides a resonator setup like the loudmouth/dynomouth. The hooker is VERY close to the magnaflow and is a great option also. The chokemaster flows something like 300 ish cfm's even with the 2.5" pipes comming off the muffler. Might as well stick a cork in it, LOL. The magnaflow is over 900 cfm's....Big difference.

Get Magnaflow or if your "rich" get GMMG. You dont have to be "rich" to get GMMG, you can save up and get it..

Not true! The flow of the overall system is only as good as the worst component (in your case, the muffler). Think of it as a bottleneck. I enjoy the sound of a Flowmaster, but if you're after anything else, that is not the muffler to choose. I picked up at least an average 1-2 mpg on a '97 Vortec 5.7L switching from a Flowmaster American Thunder system to a MagnaFlow.

i had a flowmaster on my '98 z and i personally thought it sounded great, but i don't think that i got any performance gains from it though. i ended up slapping a cutout on and running with it open all the time.

I agree. From all my research, the Flowmaster catback is a waste of money on these cars.
