cat back muff too noisy
This system is loud as HELL!
I used to like it but my H/C car is a stealthy sleeper. The muff system does not seem to fit the sleeper image that I am trying to maintain. (I like beating the **** out of $90K porsch-ies and having their owners think I am driving a stock F-body)
Any ideas for replacing or modifying my cat back so it can be as quiet as a stock (e.g., a small block mouse) exhuast?
Something is wrong or you don't know what loud as hell is, hooker's cat-back is one of the three quietest/best flowing made for our cars.
The only thing I can think of that would be quieter is the SLP dual/dual and/or adding cats.

hooker is QUIET until you really open her up, even then its pretty quiet. if you want stock-like quiet....you're going to need to stick with the stock exhaust. too bad you're going to loose some power.
throw on a bullit or something like that. anything is going to be loud @ 6500+ rpms.
Ho about some suggestions on making it less noisy? Can I splice in a muff in teh Y-pipe, add some resonators to the tail pipes, or what?

Add cats to your Y and a stock cat back. that will make it quieter, but you will loose some power.
You guys both missed the nail...re-read his post...
robertbartsch - I wouldn't bother with adding anymore restrictions. Would kind of defeat your purpose in the mod process right? I have to agree however with the rest of the 'love the noise' members that your exhaust is pretty quite compared to other popular systems (borla, corsa, etc). You might want to consider another muffler all together...SLP dual/dual maybe?
*You do have cats* Your car really isn't that loud, trust us!Loud is something more like mine: longtubes, big cam (MS3), and dumped duals with bullet mufflers. NO comparison there.
Edited: I forgot you had cats. Dang. Well, I guess you have about as quiet as it will get. It's really not that loud, maybe you could find somebody with a LOUD car in your area for comparison, just to put yours in perspective? I guess the dual/dual isn't much quieter.
Or are you willing to lose power to make it quieter? I don't know what putting a muffler, say an XR-1, in the I-pipe would do. Might be worth a shot though.

As you're reading this, I am installing a XR-1 round on my I-pipe.
I'll post results later today.
