I had duals, and went back to a Y. I didnt feel any seat of the pants difference, if thats any help. My car is lowered, and the duals scraped way too much.

true dual arn't always better it depends.

And besides the difference is only going to be a few BHP so does it really matter.

Where duals will come in handy is when you toss that cam in it. Conventional catbacks do a good job on stock/mild engines. Cammed. H/C, FI, and N2O engines will benefit more from duals because of their cavernous flow capacity, numbers of which mildly built engines can't make, thus negating their need for duals.

If you can, go with a catback for now. When you cam it, see how it does. Then, put on some duals and check it. You can always sell the catback and recover some of your money. Plus, duals sound a HELLUVA lot better'n a catback.

I ditched my Magnaflow catback in favor of TSP True Duals when I got cammed.

Welcome to an extremely divided issue.

Here's my $.02:

Previous exhaust: Kooks LTs, catted-y, Hooker Cat-back.
Dyno: 331/347

Current exhaust: Kooks LTs, custom ORX (read - no cats), 3" duals into the x-pipe, 2.5" over the axle, through Magnaflow bullets, into CME tips in the rear.
Dyno: 340/356

No cam here. How much of that was getting rid of the high flow cats? How much was the duals? Who the hell knows...

I did my duals right the first time (IMO)...I didn't do them dumped, so I have no complaints about interior noise at all.

Just do whatever floats your boat, and whatever is within your budget.

I say that true duals will flow the best, but you can see in my sig what I have. I believe you can get a pretty good flowing y-pipe (QTP or mufflex come to mind) and put a cutout in to be within a nat's *** of true duals.

FWIW, I chose my setup because I want my car to appear totally stock from the outside I am considering going with the QTP dual cutout y-pipe sometime in the future, that might be the best of both worlds.

I'm in the process of going back to a Y/catback setup as well. The days of the duals were fun, and loud ... but I'm getting tired of setting off car alarms every other time i start my car, and not being able to talk on my phone in the car.

Duals will show alil more power than a Y setup, but the duals really help pick up power throughout the powerband .... so your peak #'s wont be much higher w/ duals over a Y.

I lost alot of power in th eupper rpm's when I switched from duals to a Hooker catback.

Very noticable for me as well as others who rode in the car.

Are true duals louder than a cutout on a cat back?

You guys that are going from duals back to a Y pipe - why not just change the mufflers? I went from swett thunders to Flowtech Raptors, I felt no loss in power. The car is actually quiet now. I can sit at 3k rpm at 70mph and talk normally to my passenger

A 3" Y pipe w 4" to 3" Flowmaster Merge collector into a 3" cutout is gonna make damn near the same as a dumped 3" ORX TDs setup. Both very free flowing setups for our size 346 engines.

I'm cammed but I picked up 6rwhp and 2rwtq going from ory with cutout in low 70 degree weather to true duals out the back in upper 80s and very humid weather. In equal weather conditions I would guess I picked up about 10rwhp and 5rwtq and the duals sound much better than the open cutout.
