Want me to guess? Maybe 3-5 hp.

It depends on how they inspect. If they sniff, you'll fail. If they scan, you can pass by turning off the rear O2 DTCs and setting the codes as "enabled" but "x=off." If they scan only, you could still fail if they did a visual inspection and saw no cats.

Also, if you used O2 sims, and they scanned only, you could pass if they didn't do a visual inspection for cats.

I just got mine done, and they did a visual.
My .02 cents would be to leave them on.

Maybe somebody from NC can come in here and tell you exactly how they do checks.

Its not that complicated. If you remove cats you have to get sims for the rear O2 or get them tuned out. That way if they scan you are fine. But if you dont get sims you will fail the test for sure. If the do a sniffer test without cats you will fail for sure. Or if they do a visual inspection you will fail for sure.

i'm gonna get heat shields to weld on since there is only the likelyhood of a visual, besides the scan.

I think you would fail. I'm fairly certain that they hook it up to a computer to see what exactly is coming out of your tailpipes. I know that if you move the cats at all you are suppose to fail as well. BTW I live in Charlotte/Raleigh

wow that sucks for you guys in NC. in MD i think it is cars made after 97 or 98 only have to get checked for codes. But if i do get caught, the gains are a hefty $3000 fine at the minimum i believe.

dont forget, its a nationwide law to have cats and is a federal crime if you get caught, like tampering with someones mailbox. thats why the fine is so high, that being said, i'm glad i got my cutout and flowmaster because when its closed you would think my car was stock.

I finally got my new Massachusetts inspection sticker (after not having an up-to-date sticker for over 2 years), and they didn't do a visual under the car. He checked all my lights, looked at the sticker on the license plate, and had me start it up after he connected the scanner. I already knew that all my I/M tests were completed and that I had no codes, active or pending. The only thing I was really worried about was exhaust noise, but when I pulled the car in the first thing he said was that "it sounded good," so I knew I was in good shape.

You need to find a performance type of shop that does inspections. The shop I went to the owner has a 2002 ZO6, and the guys that work there are all into performance.

lol what preadtor said. I take my shop to a guy that know's me and my family pretty well. it's a small shop with 3 mechanic's and I know all am friends with all. heck we end up going to the track together and help each other to mod are car's and fix them.so they know what's done and don't care much the've let my car slid for inspection while I was in the middle of mod's and such with no big worries. find a couple good frineds and your in good shape.

I'm in MD and have never heard that (3k fine). I'm not saying it's not true, just surprising. I'm getting the Kooks setup w/ORY installed, so we'll see.
