The things are only like 4" long, so you'd only have to slide the pipe 2" back to get one side off.
As far as the slits, I dunno what you're talking about. Here's a pic of them lined up.

I think it's a piece of crap.
Slip fits in tons of pieces that leak no matter what you do.
Cats that are jokes for cats.
No merge collector, just one piple welded into the side of another.
Doesn't fit right unless you cuts pieces off the bottom of your car.
I do love the headers, but the Y pipe blows.

Yes, a merge collector would be nice, but would also increase cost.
For a mass produced pipe, it's nice. Duals are the way to go of course, but for those wanting a catted Y, with the option of going off-road, you can't beat it.
BTW - you're going to see ANY true 3" pipe - dual or Y - from the side of the car on the drivers side to some extent. If you can't see it, you will feel it on the floor-board.
