Default Spark plug gap for N/A ~400hp applications

whats the rule for spark plug gap again, like Stock gap - .004for every 50hp you have over stock?

I've got my tr55's gapped at .051 right now, but I'm going to be swapping em soon so I was wondering what everybody thats cammed and in the 400rwhp ballpark are gapping them at?

TIA

Well, my cammed A4 LS1 was at about 360rwhp and I was running TR55s gapped @ .055. Worked fine for me.

I would say that sounds about right at where you currently have them.

Should last over 30K. However, a lot of us change between 10 & 20K on average.

ya i'm cresting the 15,000 mi mark right now and w/ doing the cam and everything and running pig rich for a while before it was tuned i figured it'd be best to get some new ones in there.

Another question, what would be the downside to having them gapped at .055 still even if the car is making 400hp?

Default It's not just hp...

...it's compression.

If you have decked heads, you'll wanna go down. If you have higher compression, you'll wanna shrink the gap.

Strokers bring another factor in: Piston speed. The piston is travelling faster and the spark event has to happen faster, too. This can be adjusted w/ HP Tuners.

so in other words, if you've got stock heads and still running the stock CR ... you should be running .055? That would make sense

I'm at 11:1 with a 585 lift cam and running .042 gap on TR6's, putting down 431HP. Runs great.

Not trying to hijack, but in addition to changing the gap, aren't you supposed to go a step colder for every 100hp gained?

I went TR55s gapped @ .055 when the car was exhaust only

Then went H/C and went TR6s at .038
