Well, there might be a tiny gain since the pump is belt driven. Removing the belt will free up a minute amount of power.

It looks like the poll is a runaway for deleting it.

Thanks to those that participated.

Oh crap. My bad. I went out and looked under the hood in the dark last night and mistook the AC comp for the AIR pump lol.

Indeed the AIR pump is not belt driven like it is on the 5.0L Ford, and it is located low, behind the drivers side head light.

I'll try to stick to asking the questions when I'm unsure.

Thank you for the correction, MrDude.

BTW, does anyone know what part of the GM repair manual shows the AIR pump? I can't even find it in the book lol.

The AIR pump is behind the DRL on the driver's side. You'll have to get underneath the car and you'll see screws holding up black plastic molding. Unscrew that and it will flip down. You'll see the AIR pump up inside.

the better question would be "Who regrets pulling off AIR?" I yanked mine without looking back. Plus like everyone else agrees...It looks much better.

Oh man, I'm still on the fence.

I live in Mass. Last time I had an inspection the guy was looking all over my ****. I need to find a more performance friendly (lazy) inspection station.

I kept it originally when I installed headers, but after hassling with it for a year I finally tore it out. I mostly took it out to clean the enigne bay up for car shows. It does make the engine much easier to work on, but my cats have now gone TU....not sure how much a part the AIR played. Most likely from the Hot Cam + the race track.

Pardon my ignorance but what do you mean by "my cats have now gone TU" ???

I'm guessing you meant "tail up" ?

Did the stuff inside the cats melt?

Thanks again guys.

Yep mine took less than an hour with all that crap out of the way. I just wished that someone had told me that it was a seven cylinder instead saying it was a V8.

Just kidding I found #8 just had to go under the car to get it.

Heck no! Don't miss it either. Cleaner look, less weight, easier to get to plugs and header bolts.

Get rid of that crap. Much easier to work on your car and you don't have to listen to that whine while its actually on.
