Can't pass Smog?
I have a 99 TA that I'm trying to smog after a battle with the wiring harness that melting to my headers. I took it to the dealer to rewire and reroute around the SLP Longtub headers. Then I took it to a smog station and failed the NO (PPM) at 15mph "max limit 430 my measure is 1170". When the wires melted they took out the Crankshaft Sensor and caused the engine to back fire severely enough to blow out both CAT's!!! Could this backfiring destroy the EGR valve? Any knowledge you have on Smoging would be greatly appreciated.
PS. The car passes at the 25mpr marker with no problems.
Thanks,
Jeremy
a code from it.
Low speed will put the cats colder and possibly less
effective.
However I suspect the trouble may lie with the O2
sensors, headers making them run cold and swing
wide & slow; every over-excursion is a high-emission
"event" that the cats have to bust down. I am no
emissions expert (only smart enough, to not live in
places where the State thinks it's your Mother).
If you're going to throw replacement parts at it, the
O2 sensors ('vette rears as replacements) are a good
place to start. I would also make sure that, with the
CKP wiring replaced, you had a crank relearn that ran
OK.
