Is this exhaust stock?
How can you tell if the exhaust is stock?
I peeked under the car a few days ago and didn't notice any brand names or markings on the muffler. The Y-pipe looks stock for sure, and I didn't get a good look at the intermediate pipe, but I'm assuming its stock too. However, the car doesn't have the Square tips that (I thought) ALL factory Z28 exhaust systems come with. There are 2 round tips that stop a few inches short of the rear bumper. However, a previous owner might have cut them off if he felt there were unsightly.
Any specific things for me to look for in identifying the factory exhaust? Measure the pipe at the end and compare? GM markings to look for? Production line give-aways?
The car is a white 1998 A4 Z28 with 85k miles, if that makes a difference. From what i can tell, everything else on it is stock, but I bought it from a dealership and don't know the history of the car.
Thanks for the help! The z28 is by far the most exciting thing I've ever driven!!!
Take some pictures and post em up

That should be embossed on the bottom of the muffler (facing the ground). That's the part number for an LS1 Z28 muffler.
Hope that helps.

Again, its a non-SS 1998 Z28. Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks again for the help

My old 302 Mustang had dual exhaust with flowmasters. The sound of this thing doesn't compare at all. The deep rumble and part throttle drone just aren't there. But I'm not expert anyways.
any other suggestions? Does that I Pipe look stock?

A stock LS1 with a single Flowmaster crossflow sounds nothing like a 302ci mustang with a dual flowmaster system.
As for the thread, thats definatly a flow master, your mustang would sound totally different because 1, totally different car, you had duals, and 2 the flow that fits to an fbody is an 80 series not a 40 so it will sound different, ls1sounds will also sound different dpending on car, age of the muffler, and your speakers
Its a flowmaster. So that means whenever I get the money to do exhaust, I'll make sure to replace it with something with a little more flow.
Thanks for your help.
