Default Sick of the Loudmouth...going LT

I went on a roadtrip over New Years and nearly went deaf from my loudmouth. Im sick of the drone you get between 1700-2400 RPM. Decided to go with some Pacesetter LTs and Hi-Flow Cats (and take my chances come smog time ). Anyone have this setup with the loudmouth? Is it to loud? Has anyone cut the resonator out and replaced it with a bullet? I want the deep muscle car sound, but not the drone of the loudmouth. Any suggestion is appreciated.

It's loud, and IMO sounds alright AS LONG as you are running cats. Everyone else will bitch about it though.

The sound won't get any quieter by adding LT's, especially with loudmouth.

A buddy runs Mac mids and a catted Y with LM......sounds awesome in my opinion. It is loud and he says it does drone some, but from behind the car, it is really mean sounding. He just put in a cam which I haven't heard yet, but he said it is much louder now. I am quite a bit louder than him with my setup, but I don't have cats. And with that cam, the tables may have turned!

So after doing some searching on the site It seems the reoccuring suggestion is to replace my resonator with a Borla XR-1 muffler which would give me the "Borlamouth." Anyone else have an opinion? Anyone have this setup? I like the loudness of the LM, but I hate the drone.

It's just going to get worse with LT's. Cat's will help alittle. It will sound alot better with the XR1. I installed LT's ORY on my car with the LM. The LM stayed on for 150miles and I ditched it for a Hooker. Much better sound quality.

I had it with an ORY and it was ridiclous, with the cats it should still be loud but you might not have as much drone.

The wife and I did a road trip last summer with Mac headers, cats and a Loudmouth. It drove us crazy, the drone was bad. I had a Hooker catback w/cutout installed and the drone went totally away, no more drone and I love it. T/A sound beautiful now. Even with the cutout open it doesn't drone like the LM did.

Just remember that the Borla XR1 is like 5 in. in diameter, so you may end up with clearance issues, especially on a lowered f-bod.

i had LM with stock manifolds and y-pipe,a4. i hated the drone. got kooks lt's catted y-pipe and switched to corsa. i love the way it sounds now. i think you would be in for a BIG headache if you went to lt's and LM.

You'll probably want to ditch the resonator for at least a bullet muffler. A friend of mine has LT's, cats, and a LM. It definitely makes some noise now that he has a 224 cam. Before the cam swap, it sounded like this...

I had a Borla with an ORYP and you can barely hear my car next to his.

i think puttin the bullet muffler with pacesetter headers cancel each other out . . . puttin the muffler will make it quieter but the headers will jus make it loud again, . . i think if i were you i'd install the bullet muffler or the borla xr-1 with some cats, . . that way it'll still give you a "muscle car sound" with less drone . . .

Yeah, I have to keep the cats due to my location. I think my plan is to go with Pacesetter LT's, high flow cats with a shop fabbed Y-pipe, cut out the resonator and replace it with a XR-1. Like I said, I like the loudness of the exhaust but hate the drone. If this setup keeps the muscle car sound but eliminates the drone then I'll be more than happy.

I had it all welded together after I put it on so to get it off I'd have to cut it. I doubt it would be salvagable. However, after the swap I will have an SLP Y-pipe (that replaces the stock flat pipe) for sale.

Here's a clip of LT's/ORY/LM setup on my 408:
http://www.student.seas.gwu.edu/~jpo...8/WarmIdle.avi

I love the sound at idle. At anything other than idle it makes me want to kick a small child's face. The drone/rasp at 1800-2400 is absolutely insane. I have to drive around under 2k rpm's around town b/c I don't want to get pulled over.

I got less highway drone when I went LT's and catted-Y. But I have a LMII. It only rasps and pops when I get on it from a stop. If I get some speed then punch it, it sounds wicked. The rumble at low RPM/speeds is badass too.

I was suprised to have a much quieter highway trip when I added LT's though.
