Since it only takes about 5 minuts with a Dremel...it's definitely worth it.

No proof that it works. It does get your air filter dirtier and it does draw in hotter air off the radiator when you are in town. I raised my air box and sealed it on the sides and back in order to try and get more air from the nose area of the car where the air is cooler than coming off the front of the radiator. Most people will always tell you that a mod works because in their head they want it to work. Do a search, you will not find any hard evidence that it works. Now if you do the Austin Super Sucker, I believe that works because you draw the air from the cool area underneath the car and you do pick up some ram effect. Most of the power increase is from bringing in colder air, not from the ram air effect. At 100 mph, the ram air would increase the air density by a little over 1% which would give you another 4 hp if you are making 400 hp. If you can lower the intake air temp from 80 down to 70, you'll pick up almost 2% in air density, so you can see the air temp is very important.

it's not really something you can test on a dyno. You have to be moving in order for the slight Ram Air effect to take place and if you're moving on a dyno, well let's just say you have other things to worry about.

I think people at the track with a FTRA report a tenth decrease in ET and 1, sometimes two mile an hour increase in trap.

You are right, it is very tough to test on a dyno. I think Austin claimed to test it using a fan on a dyno that was blowing at 60 mph. The problem at the track is I don't know of anyone that did some runs, then did the mod, and went back and ran the same day. Weather conditions can easily account for the differences. Again, I'm not saying it doesn't do any good, it just hasn't been proven and I never trust anyone's "butt-o-meter." I didn't do it because I didn't like pulling the majority of the air from off the front of a hot radiator and there have been people that ran datalogs on their cars to show the inlet temps really rose in traffic after the FTRA.

ya, but we're in Arizona so we don't really need to worry about that.

Anything that would allow your motor to breath better is definally a good thing, it may not give you much gain but I would do it. You won't be able to pull the front wheels off the ground wonce you cut you box!!!!

If you add the Fast Toys Ram Air or the SLP Cold Air Induction you'll need to do the "free ram air" mod in order to install them.
