Default motor oil

With my mods below, what synthetic oil would you recommend? I am leaning towards Amsoil 0w30 or Mobil 1 5w40? Can't find the German Castrol 0w30 anywhere around here.

I would go with Castroil GTX personally. Regular dino oil for me. After talking to the guys at Keith Craft (crate motor company) I would not run synthetic personally.

Amsoil here as well. 5w30 in the winter, and 10w30 in the summer(gets hot here in CA).

Amsoil(synthetic), has been proven time after time in oil anylisis to hold up the longest with with out break down, and less metallic fragments(engine wear) than ohter brands of motor oil. Synthetic motor oil is used from the factory in all GM LS based motors and so do most of the sponsors on this site who build LS motors.

Keith Craft claimed that "synthetic is the worst thing you could put in an engine" THey say that its so slick that nothing gets a chance to wear in with the other components. Before you all argue with me and tell me GM uses synthetic from the factory, look at the 05 GTO's and the recall issues with customers burning oil due to rings...also, call Keith Craft and ask them. I am jsut relaying what they said. Also, my cousin raced dirt track cars for 10 years and used GTX, he wrapped them up to 8K+ rpm and had only 2 motors blow in all that time of racing, running every weekend almost. He tore his motors down every other year as i recall. Not bad.

PS, he ran 2 cars at each event, 1 for each of his sons, so i guess multiply the # of racers per blown motors by 2...I belive this was also during the beginning stage when he was still figuring out what went well with what.

i agree with stanger88. when i had my 2000 z28, i only ran castrol gtx 10x-30. i had no oil consumption isssues and my car ran fine. im wondering if i should keep using it or maybe run a synthetic 10-30 later too. i never got on my car hard, never been to the track and i changed it every 3k miles, so i really didnt see any point using synthetic. but i would like to hear from more people using castrol though..keep this thread goin

Both synthetic and regular oil will get physical contaminants, if you change the regular at 2K miles, breakdown is NOT an issue. With the money you save using GTX, you could afford 2K mile oil changes vs. 4-6K with synthetic (same price in the long run). I would feel better on the 2K regimen.

On another note, my 95 Trans am saw only dino oil from the day it was born (the current owner i bought it from used dino oil as did i, and he got his recommendation from the person who had it before) and at 170K miles i had NO ISSUES AT ALL with it.
