Default Coolant leak after LS6 intake install

Hey guys,

I swapped my intake this weekend and tried to block off those coolant crossover pipes behind the intake. This is the second time the car has been started since the swap and the second time it has pissed coolant. I'm pretty sure it's from my half assed plug job (RTV sealant in the plugs), but I just want to know if there are any other coolant related leakables back there that I may have unknowingly messed up?

Thanks, Nick

ps- I'm really tired of taking this intake off and putting it on the car. ****.

I only know of the two collant (where you should have out the plugs). I would recommend getting these plugs from a sponsor of from the dealership. Just my .02

cool, I just ordered a second front crossover ('02) like it says on LS1howto.com. My chevy dealer said the part number for the plugs was bad. Wish me luck

Did you use new plugs for the rear? Sounds like that's the problem if you didn't. You didn't try and plug the holes w/just RTV? Not sure how you plugged them from your post.

Make sure the o-rings/black gasket are on the block-offs as well and torque to specified number...if I remember right it is 106in-lbs.

Yeah, those blockoffs and front crossover pipe are mandatory. I once lust a gasket and tried to use rtv and it pissed all over too. Replaced the little gasket and it was fine.

thanks guys, I guess that's what I get for being a cheap ***.

for the record, I hacked off the pipes from the peices that get bolted down, filled them with solder and RTV'd the ends that go into the motor. The solder melted the seal between the pipe and the fitting and it leaks. Let this be a lesson to those attemting this install to buy the block offs or the front crossover pipe from an '02/'01 car to use on the back.

Lesson learned...we've all done it at some point. Good luck with it.
