Default True Duals

Ok, I have read a bunch of threads including a long intro explaining installations and different setup options. I would like peoples thoughts who have put a true duals setup on their car. I am very concerned about ground clearance. I would be looking to take them back to the tips. For those of you who got this done by a shop specifically, how did it turn out? How did your ground clearance get affected? I would get my setup done by a shop (I'd install the Jet hot l/t's myself) so that the shop could heat and bend anything that needed it to maximize ground clearance. Thanks a lot for your help in advance; I am new to the F-body setup; coming from a 97 Cobra. (which I had l/ts on and my ground clearance got shot to all hell.. part of the reason I am heavily researching this topic prior to jumping right in!)

I am lowered 1/2" and I have better clearance than I did when I was stock. This was the best mod I've done so far. With the LT's and this, I gained .6 seconds and 5 mph at the track. Top end was the biggest gain that I noticed. If done properly, it can turn out awesome with no clearance issues. Running out the back is my recommendation...I had them dumped first and it was too loud and rattled the inside of my car too much. Now they are perfect. Still loud, but only behind the car. I ran them under the axle due to cost. Power gains are great and you still have numerous options for sound depending on which muffler you get. Enjoy and let us know what you decide.

how much did it run you to get it done? did you get them to install your headers too or just do the duals?

I installed the LT's myself. This is my second TD system...the first had zero clearance. This setup cost me $320 minus the mufflers and H-pipe. If you figure those in, $475ish. Very reasonable for the performance and sound.

i have a full 3 inch setup that dumps infront of the axle. Im using QTP headers and a dr. gas xpipe. If you want to go over the axle, you will probably want to stick to 2.5inch

A well designed dual setup should be not have any issues with clearance. 2.5" is fine for about 500bhp with low or no loss (muffler dependant), if you plan on a lot more bhp than 500 then 3" maybe a better bet.

Panhard Rod location can be an issue with duals, but not always.

Things to watch out for. It you plan on running an aftermarket body mounted torque arm then it limits the space available for a dual system, espcially if you plan on using an X pipe. So plan ahead so you don't have to redo things twice.

Also a GOOD Y pipe setup will scavenge in the same manor as an X pipe and as long as you choose the correct size tubing and good enough flowing mufflers it will also flow and perform as well as a dual setup.

Simple guide:

-Bolton car to bolton mild cam ~300-365rwhp = no loss (or very low) with a good 3" catback.
-Bolton car with a mild to hotish cam ~380-400rwhp = fine with a 3" catback and will only see minimal loss.
-Bolt on + h/c ~400+rwhp = 2.5" duals or 3.5" Y
-Bolt on + FI ~460+rwhp = 2.5" duals or 3.5-4" Y
-FI 530+rwhp = 2.5"-3" duals or 4" Y
-FI 580 and onwards rwhp = 3" duals

Above is only IMO of course

I had no issues with ground clearance and the power gain was great, specially at top end. Too loud though
