I have a local friend who had a custom td x setup under the axle. He had some bolt-on's and a T-rex cam. He made 406 with it. He then decided to put on a y-pipe system like mine and a cutout. Because of ground clearence issues. He redyno'd the car and made the same amount of hp. Now the x wasn't a brand name but still I was shocked it made the same.

Do you have graphs? How did the power under the curve compare...?

Not for most of us.
If you only have 2.5" pipes, or a 2.5" ID muffler (like sweet thunders) and you are making >450 rwhp you might consider it, but even then it shouldn't be much of a difference at all.

It's all in what you want. I just thing MANY people are quick to rule out a Y-pipe's potential.
And, as for the sound mean as hell factor, I ran dual elect. cutouts and still had better clearance than the duals.

Cheers for posting that dyno chart. It just goes to show that sometimes mass public opinion isn't always correct
I would think this is due to one of two reasons. First off lots of people put the cutouts before the mid pipe, thus totally removing the scavenging that can be achieved with it. The other thing it the exhaust pressure wave, the cutouts may have been having a negative affect on it.

No these had tunes on them but nothing in the way of fudging. It was with a stock geared M6 with 17" ZR1 wheels and no messing with air pressure. Now as for the dyno it was done on. Well it was just a local exhaust shops dyno and I am not sure if it is actually calibrated right. The A/F always seem to be way off with every car that we have had on there. But nothing was put in the dyno to change the diffence in outputs of the systems.

How exactly was it tuned (or who tuned it)? Provided it was the same wideband each time, that would mean there is a difference that I would say is in favor of the y-pipe setup, and could account for the similar numbers. That is the only thing that is raising flags in my head with the two graphs.

It was the same tuner and the same dyno. All I am saying is I'm not a fan of the place we went to as far as a nice dyno goes. None of the numbers were altered any. This isn't my car. Yes the Y is alittle leaner but the lines still flow even with each other. I was just posting this to show what I had seen. If I wasn't there I would have called BS. But I was at both pulls and I couldn't believe it.
