Default installing headers very soon....just a few ?'s

ok i know this question has been as asked before but i'm getting nothing in search....so here goes. My friend and I are going to be installing my pacesetters and tsp ory this saturday on my 02 Z28 and we never done anything like this before on any car. So we like to know what are the best tools to use, what kind of prep work is need before removing stock exhaust, how to install, tips, etc,etc....

As of now I have Pacesetters Non-coated LT race headers,TSP ory,all the bolts, clamps and whatnot that came with the headers and ory,new NGK TR-55 plugs, new GM gaskets.

i also need to know what length o2 extenions i need

also how to stop the banging y-pipe?

i'm also deleting the A.I.R. system at the same time and i will NOT use the rear o2 since i am getting a TSP mail-order tune a week later so i'll live with the ses light til then.
please share your wisdom! as we will be cheaking back for pointers during the install.
thanx alot guys!

Get ARP headers studs, great looking and especally great when installing the headers, don't forget your antiseize. Plus I also suggest calling sdpc and getting some band clamps or you can ask tsp to upgrade yours, but SPDC's are stainless.

Wait until you see if it's banging or not. Just take your time and move slow. I used a 3/4 inch impact and some long as extensions to take the stock cats off from my manifolds, worked like a charm. Snapped 3 out of the 6 bolts, but worked great. Just don't over tighten anything, and once again, take your time. It's nothing complicated at all, but breaking a bolt, or strippign something off in the head, will make it complicated. As for the banging, get it all up, and see where and if it's going to bang. I have no banging, but I made my own 3 inch Y, so that's probably the reason. I've never worked with TSP's, so I can't say. Good luck.

^^ agree wait to see if there is any.. I had custom duels put on after headers but later on decided to put cats on and and now it hits.. Not sure if it would melt I think it would vibrate off before it would melt..Any thick rubber hose would do..or you can get fancy and weld a spring on to it I haven;t tried that.. I took it to an exhaust shop and they couldn't do anything with it.<--- this would be your first option.

Poly mounts will eliminate any kind of banging problems that you would be having. That way you dont have to worry about your garden hose melting to your pipe and floorboard.

Ya just take your time. I would wait until after you are done to see if it is banging. You probably will break the bolts in the cats, but dont worry, you wont ever need those again . Whatever you do don't overtighten the bolts in the heads!

The bolts in the heads only take 18 ftlbs (not alot) so grab a torque wrench, and use it, don't just yank on the bolt till it's tight, you risk either snapping the bolt, or stripping the threads (and either will really ruin your day)

The install is pretty straight forward. Just take your time and be careful when removing or threading anything into the heads and remember to use antiseize. Besides that the only tool I'd really recommend is a 10mm gear wrench with a flexible head. You are going to need this to remove the back bolt on the passenger side coil pack bracket. There are other ways to get to it, but this is by far the easiest.
