Default tips and tricks for homemade duals?

I am planning on fabbing up my own true duals using Flowmaster 1 chambers real soon, so does anyone have any tips and tricks on making this fit up properly? I am planning on using the Y-pipe that came with my Hooker LT's, cutting it a bit before the Y, running two 45* (or so) bends there into an H-pipe, back into the mufflers and under the axle out the back (probably later for the tailpipes)...does this sound reasonable?

I did mine in my garage on jackstands over about a weeks time so of course it's reasonable, it'll just take some work so be patient! I assume you have a welder handy? Also get a good assortment of mandrel bends. Are you doing it on a lift? If not make sure you have the suspension completely loaded with the car's weight so you can tuck pipes up for maximum ground clearance. You'll love those 1 chambers......they sound incredible. I get compliments and stares every time I take the car out!

yeah I have a wire feed welder I'm going to be using for this, and its going to be on jackstands too

did you expand the pipes to fit over or just butt-weld them together?

Dont forget the hammer to clearance the underbody for those mufflers to git and tuck up high.

I didn't expand pipes, just butted them together and welded 'em up. You're gonna have to get that car up in the air as high as you can safely so you have room to work under there. Also like I already said earlier, make sure your jack the rear suspension up so it's loaded as much as possible. This will move the torque arm up to it's normal position and allow you to tuck the pipes up higher.

I didn't have to clearance any of the underbody to make the 1 chambers fit. I've got 3" of ground clearance under the mufflers and I'm lowered 1.75".

Do you have some ramps to put the rear tires on?

Be my guinea pig, bud. Get two OEM catbacks, tie them in with your H, and alter the end over the axle to aim your 1-chambers out the back as you like.

i recently found a place that makes nice expanded joints of bend mandrel sections.

PM for details.

just take your time...buy an exhaust cutter and a chop saw. I butt welded all my pipes together. I wish i knew about this place because i dont have to mess with cutting u bends up anymore.

Has anyone fabbed up a mock TD system with flextube or PVC/ABS pipe? I was wondering if it would be possible to do this then take the pieces to a local shop to be mandrel bent to match your plastic/flex pieces.

Also, has anyone ever used one of those 16 ton (up to 3 inch) tube benders on eBay to bend tubing? Can you simply put in 2.5 or 3 inch steel ***** (also available on eBay for $18) in the tubing in the bend area?

That looks really good. I think you're right about the H-pipe... Do things hang pretty low out the back too on the the street?
