I just got a 2001 convertible Z28 with the upgraded 2.23 rear end. How much of a deference does this rear end make? And what would be the first mods that you folks think I should do to this car?

I think you meant 3.23 First get a lid! Then if u want to spend a lot on a cat-back do that or go the cheap route and get a cut out. If its an auto get a torque convertor if its a 6 speed get a better clutch. There are a lot of options out there. hope i helped

I would agree with Drew - lid + catback should get you a cheap and easy 15+rwhp over stock. Beyond that I would look into subframe connectors, especially with a convertible. This will really tighten up the car and allow the suspension to work - also helps prevent the infamous F-body squeaks and rattles later in life. Beyond this point I think you'll have to figure out what exactly you want from the car - if you're a drag racer, then a converter (A4), gears, etc., would be good. If you're more interested in RR/AX then I'd work on upgrading the suspension.

In either case, AutoTap and a laptop will be a great help down the road if you plan on doing anything beyond the most basic engine mods.

That's by no means a complete list, but should help you get started.

just kidding. do what the guys have been saying, lid/induction, catback/exaust. How much do you want to spend or how fast do you want to go determines what you should or should do.

You should consider the Free Ram Air Mod first. I'm assuming the lower airbox wasn't fixed for '01. After that, get a lid. Then cat-back.
Possibly consider a strut tower brace. You can bet one from BMR for as low as $89.

It all depends what you want to do with your car.
I'm in the same situation that you're in. I have the catback and lid on order. Torque converter is next.

Free mods first, then a lid and a cutout. First expensive item you should get is a stall converter.
