I had the stock thermostat w/the HPP3 set for a 160* for a while but the fans ran non stop! now that I have added a 160* the secondary fan only comes on when sitting in traffic for prolonged periods. I even have an extra 10#'s of oil pressure now!

Maybe they changed them after 98, but my owner's manual clearly said that it was a 177-184F unit, and scan tool testing proved that, since on the highway on a 70F day it would read about 190F.

Stock for me <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Is it correct to assume with a lower temp t-stat you get a richer mixture and therfor a "little" more power and a "little" less mpg??? Atleast it's what my grandfather tells me <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I think the stock thermostat is just fine unless you are in a hot climate like here in Florida, it just gets too hot here. I was starting to get some high RPM detonation at WOT with the stock thermostat once we got into the 90's but now with the 160* and the fans set the detonation is gone.

I installed the 160 stat in my 99Z and it caused my car to detonate and run too rich. I didn't like it! Other people have had some different experiences with it, so give it a try and you will see how it works onyor car because no car isthe same!

You need to modift your poll....
I don't run a thermostat at all, and that is not an option on your poll.

I think your the first LS1 that I know of trying this, do you have any autotap readings? I know what you mean though, it's hot as hell in Florida right now!
