Anyone tried the ATI Super Damper?
Guys,
I got a great deal on a brand new ATI Super Damper...$350 shipped.
I already have the ASP pulleys on my car (they have been on there for close to 30,000 miles).
Is there any advantage to switching to the ATI from the ASP? I originally bought the ATI to use on a new motor that I am going to assemble...but that project won't be done for about 2 months and I was wondering if I should throw this think on there.
What do you think?
Scott

I have one and it is working great. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
I agree with GeorgeC, $350.00 is a great deal. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Re: Anyone tried the ATI Super Damper?
Since I have an EWP I don't really need an "underdrive" pulley per say, but I understand the ATI piece is 10% under?
Is there a performance advantage over the ASP pulley (like one that I could see on a dyno?), assuming both had the same underdrive?

However, the vibration damping is a welcome feature on a high rpm setup such as yours (especially if you go with the new cam you're talking about)... Well worth them money IMHO, I just haven't gotten around to getting one yet.

Re: Anyone tried the ATI Super Damper?
It may or may not be worth any power, but longevity of the bottom end, since it won't be vibrating itself to pieces...
AFAIK, the only sponsor here that carries the ATI damper is Thunder Racing...

GTS_SS has one on his ride, and he told me that its noticably lighter than the asp. As to really how much lighter... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />
It looks cool as hell though!

Re: Anyone tried the ATI Super Damper?
Hi,
I got this reply from the ATI engineer when I asked about a HP increase using their dampers on a LS1.
Steve
Steve,
We have many tests on HP increasing using our damper – unfortunately none on the LSI of yet.
Our LSI damper is standard equipment on the World Champion Corvette-C5R engines built by Katech. Jack Roush used them on 50 +LSI’s that went to Europe for a road race circuit – Vortech has used 300 of them with their supercharger kits – and most serious Y-body engine builders, of them including Lingenfelter, 3R, Marv Palmer, Katech, Doug Rippy, Chuck Mallet, Spectre Works, Wheel to Wheel, Performance Tech, MTI. The ASA AcDelco series also uses our damper on their Spec LS1 engines. The damper is not the new LS1 style but nevertheless the principle is the same.
ATI & GM have done extensive testing on torsional twist and the worst I have seen is .4 (fourteenths of a degree) on the World Challenge Katech engines.
To my knowledge, none has done back to back power tests on a semi-stock LSI to confirm a known HP(number) increase – However we know for a fact that reducing torsional twist allows the engine to make more HP by:
1. stabilizing cam tuning
2. eliminating fuel curve spikes caused by high frequency
3. elimination valvetrain and valve spring disruption by high frequency in these components.
Numerous other engine builders have tested and know the ATI damper increases HP – that’s why every Winston Cup, Busch and & Craftsman truck engine builders use the ATI unit. Hope this helps you with your decision.

Re: Anyone tried the ATI Super Damper?
I used the ATI unit on my buildup for the protection it offers. In the world of racing, it is tops... For the money some of us are spending on our engines, I figure it is cheap insurance... It is 10% underdrive.
BTW that is an awesome price. Jump on it.

Re: Anyone tried the ATI Super Damper?
No $hit on the price of that thing... are you buying it from an individual, or from a business?? If it's a business, do you have any contact info for them?? I am going to install an ATI damper at the same time as when I go heads/cam.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Which one is the best for a high rpm drag racer that can take or leave the under drive? (My pulley only turns alternator) The alum for $480?

Re: Anyone tried the ATI Super Damper?
I decided not to run the asp..tired of always waitng for one and think the ati is better.Do you need a new belt with one or does that depend on if you get the 10% underdrive one..so three part numbers now..more confusing..I wonder which would make more hp..the aluminum non underdrive or the steel underdrive...???decisions..decisions..Do they intstall just like normal pulley or any strange installation stuff??
