Default 1 7/8 headers on stock 346...

I have a 2000 Z28 with minor exhaust (Borla) and intake (Whisper lid, free ram air) mods. I will be getting heads/cam/stroker later but not now for financial reasons. So I'm building the exhaust system first. Are 1 7/8s headers too much for an almost stock application stock application??? What kinds of hp/tq and 1/4 mile gains will I see with these headers?

1 7/8 ARE TOO BIG FOR STOCK, IF YOUR SERIOUS ABOUT BUILDING A REAL MOTOR I'D GET THE BIG HEADERS AND DEAL WILL THE LOSS IN POWER VS USING A 1 3/4 HEADER NOW

Everyone says that but i have the 1-7/8 LT's on my STOCK LS1. I gained 20 hp and gains started @ 3500 rpm. Torque was up on my complete rpm the least amount was 5ft/lbs up to 15ft/lbs with NO LOSS ANYWHERE.

Don't mean to sound like a ***** but people ALWAYS say they are to big and have no proof to back it up! I DO!

Possibly on other V8's that is true but LS1's like to BREATH!

I would think the 1 3/4 will make more torque (better scavenging) but the 1 7/8 should make better high RPM horse power (better flow).

My car was still running rich w/ 20hp. There was much more potential but dyno runs get expensive. ESPECIALLY w/ only MAFT to tune with. There is more in her since i was in the low 12's w/ my A/F ratio...

I've got the 1-7/8 Grots as well on a stock 346. After adding the Grots, the y-pipe with cats and the Corsa exhaust I netted a 45 HP gain. Maybe the numbers would be slightly different with the 1 3/4, but I really didn't mind it.

Verbs: what size grots do you have just for clarification?

I gained 28 rwhp and 26 rwtq with the 1 3/4 grots, and a friend gained 33 rwhp and 26 rwtq, both gains were made on a stock LS1. The fastest bolt-on LS1 uses the 1 3/4s as well. IMO the 1 7/8 will still net a great gain, but maybe the 1 3/4s will work slightly better on stock cubes.

I have the GMMG w/ OR Ypipe. There is stil more power in the car i just need to lean it out some more. My ultimate plans are big cubes so i just started w/ the best!

Gains are there and i was dynoed on a crappy day. Either way i have nothing to justify. I was NOT saying that they were better or superior to the 1-3/4 grotts. I was merely stating a fact that they are NOT to big. Some people just get there panties in a wad when it does not concern them.

Well off to wash my newest beater car...

Well I'm thinkin these with 3" duals including cutouts, cats, bullets, and turndowns before the axle. Would that be too big and create backpressure by slowing exhaust flow???
